Maps update and Latitude broken again

All my shared friends are gone and the friends screen says "Sharing Disabled". Clicking on that takes me to a settings screen where most of the options are greyed out and say "retrieving settings". They just stay that way and I can no longer set up location sharing. I wish Google would quit borking this thing with every update.

after upgrading the app on my evo lte, all my friends disappeared. I've tried reinviting from my account and theirs and nothing ever goes through. I think latitude is toast right now.

uninstall update, turn off automatic updates, load widget, add latitude launcher app
