March 2023 security Patch

There are so many things I wanna say right now but I don't wanna upend my good standing in the forums. I like this place, but I'm biting my tongue over here.

Can you give us a hint as to which way you are going to go?

1. Google are doing a poor job in this area.

2. Google are doing a magnificent job, and don’t need any carping criticism.

Great options . I think he is with option 2 since Google is doing a great job in terms of both hardware and software and folks are worried unnecessarily

I'm solidly in this camp.
The Pixel 7 series is a fantastic phone, feature, stability (mostly) and h/w wise, IMO/IME.

Sure, some more proactive release communication would be nice (the delayed/shelved December package is perhaps the biggest example I have, for Android, recently), but they do a fantastic job of documenting all of their interfaces, etc.

There are other options, pretty much all of which have their own delay-issues, periodically (sometimes tied to Android, really, since it's the base for all)... ;)

Hmm, I just happened to be perusing the 3/5/23 release notes, and interestingly there are 4 Unisoc vulnerabilities and 1 Primary Kernel vulnerability fix(es), and about a 20 or so Qualcomm vulnerability fixes, this go-round, hmm.

This *seems* to point to the opposite direction for patches taking longer for the Tensor SoC integrations and interop, and more towards incoming fixes for other chipset based phones/devices.
Obviously, you'd have to really dig into the patches, to get a clearer picture, but on the surface, it's an interesting take...

It's really funny some people think Google shouldn't be criticized because the pixel 7 pro is a great phone.

I've only had pixels since the first one I'm a big Google fan. But there should always be room for criticism and they have been terrible with these updates it's getting very disappointing.

And also the six was a pretty disappointing release and that phone took forever to get just okay. I had my pixel 6 pro until my pixel 7 pro but it was definitely not a great phone.

If Google had been putting out great phone after great phone for the last 6 years I would give them a little more slack but they have not.

Seriously. Google isn't above reproach. That's one thing that's pretty annoying here. Let's be honest with ourselves for a min, and say Google has done some things right, and has completely dropped the ball in other things.

Starting with the pixel 6, they have pretty much started faltering with updates. These last 2 phones have been pretty sub par. The 6 was probably the worst launched Google phone since maybe the Nexus 6P maybe?! I really enjoy my 7pro, but they could do some things better. They have the resources to fix a lot of these issues but they choose not to.

You are postulating that it was delayed one week?

Any evidence, or just a guess?
Have you gotten it? What phone do you have?

I have a Pixel 7 Pro and a Pixel 5a 5g. Both are running Android 13 QPR2 and neither has gotten the March update. I have read that it was delayed and will be available next week.

I don't know if you consider that "postulating" but I do have evidence. I'm not just guessing.

Can you cite your evidence?

I don’t “consider” it anything, I asked a question.

I agree, criticism, ideally in a foward-moving/constructive manner is always good (which could easily include huge community threads that go viral or similar, IMHO).

My comments were solely about the cadence of the update release.
Yeah, I think it's a great phone, by most aspects, honestly I wouldn't ask for much more, other than perhaps the zoom lens from the 22/23U, perhaps there's a bit of envy there... ;)
Not saying it's a perfect phone, with no room for improvement, some of it from s/w.

Truly though, I don't get the angst of a few days late security patch, be it a new/fixed feature drop as well, or just the compromise fixes. Maybe it's because I worked on the other side of the OS fence for quite a few years, I've felt the pain, trust me :-X

Just curious, do you have a list of some sort, the features or issues?

I'm always interested in all sides of this issue, having chased a whole variety of customer s/w (and some h/w integrations) things around a lot of ways...
