March update battery drain?

Hopefully the April security update fixes this because I have as well experienced massive batter drain. Where I once would've gotten 4:30-5:30 of SOT daily now I barely hit 3:30 or even 3 hours of SOT and like wise it all started when getting the March update. I haven't cleared cache yet but I shouldn't have to too begin with.

I used to be able to reach 5 hours of SoT but I'm lucky to get just over 4 after the update.

I'd easily hit 4-5 hrs of SoT before this update. Today I barely made it to 3 before the battery saver came on at 15%. Not liking this update, something is wakelocking my phone.

I don't think it's a wakelock issue... I think Google tweaked the kernel settings in the MHC update. Problem is that performance improvements usually come at the cost of power consumption.

Keep an eye on the April update... Wouldn't shock me to see another update to the kernel to tweak things a bit more.

Whatever they did, they need to fix it. This attached screen shot is from when I left my phone charging overnight. Screen is off and solid awake bar for no reason. I noticed an issue last night when I plugged in, and it wasn't rapid charging. It was pulling down 650-1000amp. Usually when the battery is low, (it was around 30%) it pulls close to 3000amp. This update has ruined the battery life of this phone. I could easily get to 5hrs SoT, yesterday I barely made it to 3....

I forgot to post that my battery life went back to normal after i made this thread after i cleared my cache partition. I can easily still hit more than 5 hours SOT on wifi at home probably 6 before it gets to 20 percent. Ive also turned off every feature i dont use though which is a lot. Battery isnt as good as my S7 EDGE, but thats okay because it charges faster, looks better imo, bigger screen and stock android is so much smoother so that's fine and thus battery is great.

Go to location services and turn off bluetooth and wifi scanning and change mode to gps only if you can then turn off google location history, saves tons of battery. Go to security and device administrators and uncheck what you dont use. Turning sync off and nfc if you dont use them along with bluetooth. Go to settings, google, security, turn off scan device for security threats, and scan harmful apps also turn off google photos back up if not used. While in google, turn off other stuff you dont use. Other things to turn off is going to your homescreen, hold down on a blank are where it shows settings, widgets wallpaper, click on settings and turn off whatever google now and voice features you dont use. Again this is stuff i dont use which in turn gives me amazing battery life. I still use the phone how i want and turn these features off and on at times

Serious question. Do engineers at Google that actually code these security updates and other monthly "bug fixes and performance improvements" actually own the 6P or are they all using iPhones like Eric Schmidt? I am being tongue in cheek, but it seems like they just toss these updates out into the wild without testing them on actual 6P devices first from people who use them as daily drivers who would know the difference.

Oh, these are extensively tested. But the problem is that they can't replicate every phone and every use case. My battery performance is about the same now as it was prior to the update, so not everyone is having issues.

I reset the app cache and it resolved my battery drain.

Clearing cache clears some temporary data that the phone quickly gets back if it needs it. It's not like clearing the app's data.

Sitting at a little over 2 hours SOT with 13% left. Less than half my typical. I cleared cache both in boot menu and some apps I suspected are issues.

Also, I know I can turn off things like location, but I shouldn't have to do that. I'm not trying to break battery records, just want to get my usual out of it

Yeah mine is not nearly as long lasting as it was before March update.

Same here. Batterylife isn't near of what it was before March. Hopefully this will be corrected.

^ ditto. Any idea if the April update will improve battery life ??? I read that it can take approx 2 weeks or so before the phone gets "adjusted" to new updates and thus bringing the phone back to "normal". Any thoughts on this ??

On the same note, has anyone tried to contact Google about these battery issues? I personally haven't, but I'm Curious to know if anyone else has.

I don't know about the April update, I haven't got it yet. Let's hope it will bring back the battery to normal :)

I'm actually having decent battery today. So far 2 hours 34 min on the phone and 2 hours 13 min sot,, sitting at 55% remaining.

Received April update yesterday. This is where I'm at. 3 hours SOT and I'm just at home cleaning, streaming Pandora on wifi (with full wifi signal). I swear when I got my phone (2 weeks ago) all things being equal, my cell service signal was better at home.... I cleared cache after update, and I don't have/use social media at all- no facebook, Instagram, Twitter.

I'm going to try and drain out battery, clear cache again and recharge to 100%. We'll see what happens.
