Can I use an external SD Card reader on my moto g? It is the prepaid Verizon edition?

I would like to transfer files to a tablet.

My friend is getting out of the big house in a couple of weeks. He has a u-tab7 from union supply, which is a locked down tablet. He said once he gets out he can't put more stuff on it.

I bet him I could do it using my phone.

Then he tells me that the tablet is locked down and he can only access it through their menu and that only allows songs etc from that company.

I am on a quest to hack that tablet. Any thoughts?

More likely than not, this device is locked down/restricted in functionality. The prison will need to release the device from whatever management lock is on it.

We're getting a lot of questions related to "former" prison devices...

This is response to Mustang 7757. I am not sure what I need for this Utab 7 as I do not have it in my possession. I am looking for whatever it is that he needs to be able to recharge it as it no longer takes a charge. Or how I can get this book off this Utab if he sends it back to me .

If the manufacturer never updated it you could try finding a ROM for it at xda, but for a low volume device like that (I've never heard of it anyway) your chances are slim. Going the ROM rite also carries some risks and the device may not perform as you hope with the new version, on top of the fact that your storage is still going to be quite limited.

Bottom line - there are some budget tablets out there that are more modern and will save you a lot of headache...

I wouldn't worry about upgrading to it as not a big difference and both are very very old Android updates.

I'm pretty sure Jpay tablets are ones people can buy for someone in prison. I wouldn't expect there to be any real tech support, and the third party developer market is probably nonexistent.

I agree that it's not really worth it to try and do much with this tablet and to purchase a newer one if possible. If this is for someone in prison, then this may not be an option, but also not likely worthwhile anyway. Judging by other similar tablets I've seen discussed here, my guess is it's pretty locked down and not much more than a media player.

There have been rumors in the WI prison system that there was a hack either here or on xda forums to de-institutionalize the tablets.
These tablets are locked by Keefe group (they have many names). They are unlockable, not exactly sure how which is why I myself am looking on here. Keefe would prefer to continue to take advantage of prisoners (or in this case former), and their families and wants people to send in the mederocre tablets (they literally are bottom of the barrel), and pay a $25 fee to unlock them to get at the games (ripoffs of games like candy crush, but which inmates pay minimum $3 for) and music they purchased and downloaded (which was minimum $1.95). Again there are ways to circumvent the institutionalization software, it has been done. Usually inmates try to do so while in prison, but we have VERY limited access to computers to connect them to (and even they are pretty locked down) to try to do anything.

Likely XDA if anywhere. We try not to discuss bypassing security tools such as would be used on those devices.

How can I get into my Keefe Edge 7 prison tablet without having to send it in and pay $25?

Keefe Group sells tablets to prisoners, I have an Edge 7. (keefe does sell under the name "Advanced Technologies Group" as well)
I have not been able to find anything on how I may get into the device. They lock it down so much, that after 30 days it auto locks a person out, you cannot get into it what so ever. They take advantage of prisoners and their families by charging outrageous prices for music and knock-off glitchy games. Then when a person gets out they want you to pay another $25 to "deinstitutionalize" the device just so you can get the stuff you already paid an arm and a leg for.

Your question has been addressed in the other thread you started. We are not able to talk about circumventing security features or protocols. As you mentioned before, you may have better luck at XDA, but I believe they adhere to a similar policy.

You might try the forums at XDA-Developers.com, since it would probably require rooting the device, and that's a better resource for that sort of thing.
