messaging contact lag issue

I am experiencing a lag issue in the HTC messaging app when the phone searches for a contact. It will take up to 5 seconds for the app to recognize the letter(s) I type in. It's really frustrating that there's that lag time. I'm also experiencing lag time when I try to bring up the keyboard. Any suggestions or hints would be greatly appreciated.

How much lag on the keyboard? Using a custom one or stock?
Multiple languages loaded?

I am totally experiencing this as well with the contacts coming up slowly. No lag with the keyboard coming up though. I'm using the Google keyboard on stock Sense.

Which phone book entries are enabled? Can you disable them all and just start with 1 and add them u til you see the issue? I have 2000+ contacts with zero lag time so maybe it's one of your phone book sources.

Found it, I only have Google contacts enabled and still have the lag issue.

In your apps check your contacts info and check how much space it is occupying. Once it is above 200mb it starts lagging. Unfortunately, I don't know why it keeps growing. I have had to reset it before and once I did it shrunk to only 40mb from 350mb

I have way under that. Now when I go into my messaging app and clear the cache, the lag goes away for awhile and then comes back like a day later??
