MKBHD really dislikes the Pixel 4/XL

Yes, and the other truth about the matter especially for Apple is the fact that most people like status symbols. Yes, there are other cheaper phones out [here. My mother loves her 3aXL. Most people don't buy those cheaper phones though... Unfortunately... Yeah when it just comes down to a monthly payment, a lot of people can afford that price difference

It's almost 2020. This whole "status symbol" and the hurt feelings are still hilarious.

I'm gonna wholeheartedly disagree with you here. Calling people who choose iPhones over Android a cult is so silly. Several years ago that might have been funny, but those days are long gone. Honestly after reading through several Pixel 4 threads Pixel fans seem to be much worse about defending Google than Apple users are to iPhones. Pixel fanboys are the new Apple fanboys.

I partially agree with you, but let’s not pretend that Apple fanboys (n.b they are a minority) don’t exist and aren’t annoying. In my personal experience (real life, not on this forum) I encounter Apple fanboys much more often...in fact, I haven’t encountered any Pixel fanboys. This is purely because iPhones are much more popular than Pixels, and therefore you get more fanboys.

I agree that simply calling the ‘other side’ a cult because they’re not on your side is silly. Pixel and Apple sheep/fanboys are very similar (e.g saying that the iPhone 7 had a great battery life vs saying that the Pixel 4 had a great battery life...both had tiny batteries).

The one glaring difference is that because of the iPhone’s price and Apple’s reputation, they are touted as status symbols, hence why there can be snobbery. The (Google) Pixel doesn’t have that kind of popularity or reputation in the smartphone world yet, for better or worse.

Just let everyone know, I'm not any kind of a snobby person. And you're right, in real life not on this forum, it's much more common and frequent for Me to see iPhone fanboys, then pixel fanboys. IPhones are just more common and popular. Pixels are a niche very specific crowd. That's the way it is. I'm not trying to sound snobby for that remark. I wish that weren't the case regarding pixels. I wish Google and the carriers marketed pixel phones much better so that more people knew about them. Hopefully, by pixel phones being sold by every carrier that will help everyone know about pixel phones. But in general Apple fanboys are much more common than pixel fanboys even though you're right, there are fanboys in both arenas. Considering this is an Android forum, for pixel phones, we try not to sound snobby towards pixel phones against iPhones, but yeah this is an Android form after all. I'm sure on iPhone forums they ridicule Android phones like crazy. Lol I will easily admit that when it comes to video recording, between the Galaxy note 10 And then new iPhone 11, they take amazing video. That's something that Google needs to work on if they care all about video taking. for me personally, I just don't really take damage video. I'm also not a vlogger so I really don't care about how my video on my phone looks haha. What's really amazing though, is the competition in the entire smartphone industry has been so great that taking pictures and videos has improved tenfold!

Like there aren't any Samsung fanboys? OnePlus fanboys and so on?

Let's not kid ourself, everyone has some kind of bias to some device/brand for whatever reason.
And separately there are rational and irrational fanboys for every device. The number of fanboys varies based on how popular the device/brand is. There are more number of Apple/Samsung fans than OnePlus/Pixels. It's just the numbers, who and how many you encounter varies obviously.

Which fanboys are worst is all subjective based on your biases and how you look at it

Once again, well said. That's an even more rational statement. It all comes down to the numbers coming popularity. we all understand that pixels are not the most popular Android phones ever built. We get them for the user experience smoothness, software upgrades, And the amazing camera!

I know I'm not in the majority, but I switch between OSes and brands fairly regularly. Just because an OEM might not have released a phone I would buy currently doesn't mean I won't look at them in the future. Sure there are outliers that I could say I most likely wouldn't ever buy for one reason or another, but as far as brand loyalty I just don't have it. I've mostly stuck to Apple, Samsung, and HTC the last several years b/c they release devices I like, but I won't count out Sony, OnePlus, or others for future devices.

But yeah, there are loyal fans that bash competitors all the way around. I guess I'm a little guilty of that in my original statement which I didn't mean to be.

yeah I hear you. I used to love HTC and Samsung. HTC went out for Android manufacturers. Samsung has crappy slow software updates. Otherwise more people would like them. Even with the gimmicky features. Yeah to some extent , we're all guilty of some kind of company bashing... I really try not to bash other companies too much.

In the end, I agree with MKBHD giving the Pixel 4 his Bust of the Year award.

Just goes to show that reviewers don't take the time to really "use" a device. I'd rather spend my money on the experience the Pixel 4 offers vs what a spec sheet would give me on a OnePlus device. IMO.

He used it for a couple of weeks. How long does one really need to use a device to know whether it's good or not? I can figure stuff out like that in two days.

Yup yup true to that. I know whether or not I love I love a phone within a few hours of buying it. That's after all the research I've done for it as well.

There simply isn't enough clear advantages of the Pixel devices anymore like there were last year. Updates are not even close to day one, and can come with infamous early bugs; and whether it's the best at still photography or not, the competition has at least caught up in the overall camera experience.

The Pixel just doesn't stand out as much anymore.

PS. My day one Pixel 4 XL in orange recently bugged out and I am now awaiting my RMA.

Really? I'd say that someone calling an iOS user a cult follower is not nearly as bad as some of the stuff I see iOS users say about Android users on a daily basis. Almost everyday I still see iOS users saying they refuse to associate with "green bubbles" and calling Android users poor on social media and the web.

No disputing that there is fanboyism for every phone in forums. But forums aren't where masses hang out and from what I've seen the elitist attitude is still out there with iOS users.[

Well said! You're not going to find that much fanboyism on the forums. You'll find in real life. For example, the same Google duo and Google Hangouts application is available on both iOS and Android platform of course. However, actually convincing an iOS user to use Google applications on their iPhone is almost impossible. My wife barely uses any Google applications on her iPhone. She uses Google duo just so we can video chat together every now and then. Other than that, she refuses to use any Google applications on her phone unless she has to. And I have found realistically that that has the same story with most iOS users.

Uh. Cult. Sheep. All over forums like this. That is fanboyism.

TBH I have never met someone in the real world (aka not on a phone forum like this) where they claimed they wouldn't talked to a green bubble.. maybe it is just the people I associate with don't care? The worst they have said is they know they can't send videos to them since they know it will look bad (a.k.a compressed) .. which is usually followed by "I just use FB messenger with them for that" (or some other <insert app here>).

IMO, that happened this year with the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro.

Camera quality is what made Pixel special to the masses.

Apple caught up and besides the zoom - which people have been trained to not even bother using on phones, the Pixel 4 doesn't do anything special relative to this generation of handsets.

Yup, that is fanboyism. However that is also real life in iOS land. I'm not saying that's every iPhone user, but quite a few of iOS users are like that.

Same with <insert phone here> so I don't get your point lol

Lol, I'm just saying that iOS users are more inclined to just use Apple apps versus cross-platform applications especially Google apps on their iPhones. That's all.
