Mobile Network Connectivity Questions

I have 2 network connectivity issues i need resolved.

1) My HTC One X has 3 mobile modes: WCDMA Only, GSM Only and GSM/WCDMA Both. When i have the phone in GSM/WCDMA Both mode and i move out of a 3G/4G area i lose all data connectivity and i have to put the phone into GSM Only mode to be able to use the EDGE network. Is this supposed to happen? I was expecting that when i move out of a 3G/4G area that the phone would cycle down to best available data mode.

2) Although i turn mobile network to "off", the network indicator still shows a full signal bar (no data connectivity though) and i am still able to make and receive calls and text messages, is this normal for the One X or any Android device?

Update: Both problems are fixed. Problem 1 seemed to be more network related. Problem 2 seems to be a regular aspect of how android handles data and gsm connections.

Calls and SMS do not use the data connection, so turning that off will not turn off your ability to call or text. Airplane mode will shut off all radios, and will shut down voice/SMS.

I wonder if your issue #1 is the same issue with these phones not letting go of a wifi signal that is out of range. Maybe the problem is not wifi, but in how it handles network switching. I am hoping this one gets resolved when we get an update.

Is this phone an AT&T model or an international model?

My international model switches over to Edge seamlessly. Heck it once showed a G (GPRS) while I was driving in the back country.

Mine is the international model, wanted a quad core beast
