You are wrong. He would only cause lag to someone else if he was hosting a game which he never does. He always joins a game that someone else is hosting with a high speed connection. Works perfect for him with no lag. Verizon LTE is the only high speed service available in my area so telling my 13yr old son that he can't game online anymore would be like telling you that you cant eat or sleep anymore. LOL.
Please, don't act as if you're correct on this because you're not. If your connection is awful, the other players in the room will lag. Socom 4, for example, proves this by itself. Many people have been getting beaten because of lag. Once they started downloading a bunch of stuff, their internet connection began to lag and they started dominating the whole room non-stop.
Besides, why is it when I'm in a room with a person from Mexico, I lag and they don't? Same reason, my internet is better and that can be proven by using Google to see how bad an average Mexico connection truly is.
Again, your son should see no lag at all if he is running on a bad connection. The connection on XBOX Live and PSN both are ping based. And LTE does not have the proper (acceptable) ping to have an optimal gaming experience for the whole lobby. I got news for you, your son is skipping all around the screen while others are getting tired of dealing with it.
Also, please take note that even dedicated servers can't stop your connection from causing problems. It helps to remove a host, but it does NOT make up for that person with a bad ping. I'm no technical (IT) specialist, but I have friends that are and could back me up on this statement as that's where this information comes from. PING means just as much if not more than Upload and Download.
Ping is a computer network administration utility used to test the reachability of a host on an Internet Protocol (IP) network and to measure the round-trip time for messages sent from the originating host to a destination computer. The name comes from active sonar terminology. In various network multi-player games, the server notes the time it requires for a game packet to reach a client and a response to be received. This round-trip time is usually reported as the player's 'ping'. It is used as an effective measurement of the player's latency, with lower ping times being desirable. Note that this style of ping typically does not use ICMP packets. If that makes any sense to you, than you can now see why ping does matter.
I'm not trying to start an argument because it's not worth it and there is no reason. I've been using XBOX Live since the beta days (8 or 9 years) and the PSN for as long as the PS3 has been out. I've seen every variable possible and it all comes down to ping. Did you ever wonder why there is a ping meter on every match? Yes, those little Red/Yellow/Green bars. It's the ping, not upload and download. The game can have an optimal host but that does not mean the high ping isn't bringing the game down. There is a reason why you could be in a lag free game and all of a sudden someone joins and it begins to lag. Call of Duty included, it's lag.
Now, you can go let your son play as video games are fun. But I hope you understand this a bit more and those dang internet companies need to hurry and offer service in your area. LOL
