Moto 360: Android 5.1.1 Update

Re: Anyone got 5.1 on thier Android Wear yet?

lol "starting to feel its age"? you guys are high, my moto 360 is working as well as it was since day 1. I think people are too bent on getting cellphone like performance from the 360, which is why they always think the watches functions are sub-par. However for a smart watch, the moto 360 is a beast. There is no need for even a snapdragon 400 and 512 mb of ram on a watch (some phones have this in them...), it is a tiny screen, with a cellphone backing up its functions. The processor in the moto360 is more than powerful enough to keep the moto 360 chugging along for many updates to come. I truly feel that people need to re evaluate what a smart watch does/ should do. which is namely be a notifier on your wrist, not just a second smaller cellphone.

All Wear watches have 512 MiB of RAM, though.

My 360 runs pretty smoothly. I have no complaints with the power of the processor. My issue is more about the battery life. It would (should) be a little better with a Snapdragon 400 processor.

Re: Anyone got 5.1 on thier Android Wear yet?

Still nothing here. Aren't they supposed to be rolling this out now?

Probably a controlled roll out with certain watches getting it at certain times!!! My only thought on this would be for then to tell us when each watch will start rolling out so we don't tie up server time mashing the update button

Re: Anyone got 5.1 on thier Android Wear yet?

Nothing here. Most of the other watches have started rolling out now. I've not yet heard of anybody currently receiving this yet on the 360.could be a few weeks before we see it. Maybe they are still working on the update

I read on the XDA forums it'll be rolling on May 29th, which is today, so mash that update button!

Still no update on my end... This is an incredibly slow rollout

June. It'll be mid June knowing my luck. Usually everyone else has seen an update for a week before I see anything. :p

I'm usually really patient with updates, but it seems like it's taking forever for the 360 to get it. Are the internals really that different?

Re: Anyone got 5.1 on thier Android Wear yet?

I think a number of watches went with the snapdragon 400 which also includes its own wifi hardware. The moto 360 on the other hand is running OMAP with a completely separate wifi chip.

Re: Anyone got 5.1 on thier Android Wear yet?

Come on already! Where is the update?!?!?!

Have there been any reports of a moto 360 getting it yet? Or is it just a very ungodly slow rollout..

Re: Anyone got 5.1 on thier Android Wear yet?

The above tweet shows the update is not even ready for rolling out yet. Not a surprise given the 360 is practically the only smartwatch not running a standardised hardware like the others and that older processor.

If true, I would imagine we will be waiting a long time on this as they would have to maximise performance initially and then do testing before rolling out the update so I wouldn't surprised if we have to wait at least another month before this rolls out ota.

Hope I'm wrong as I love the new gesture controls and hope wifi will be useful

Not surprising at all. Kinda shoots down the argument some 360 apologists are making when they say "it's just a watch, it doesn't need better hardware anyway."

It's just a watch, it doesn't need 5.1 anyway. There, I've fixed it.

I have a Casio watch that's 20 years old. Never got an upgrade and, surprisingly, it still works.

Re: Anyone got 5.1 on thier Android Wear yet?

Except that we didn't buy this solely to tell time, we bought this for the smart watch features..

If we wanted just a watch we would have bought it... It may not be for you but I really enjoy having a smart watch and would prefer if it was capable to use the newest version of the os and also capable of handling the new features which improve how the watch functions and is used..

I agree with this. New features make the experience so much better like the wrist swiping gesture but also the fact it has a wifi chip inside makes it pointless not having the software to unlock it so I really hope they get 5.1.1 released soon.

I'm predicting a at least end of July until we see glimpse of this released being rolled out ota
