moto g 4th gen will not save phone numbers

I try to enter contacts and they appear temporarily, then vanish. Frustrating!!!

Welcome to Android Central! Are you saving them to your Google account or the local Phone account?

It should not matter which account. If you save it, it should not disappear. I'm having the same problem. My accounts are synced. How do we resolve the problem?
