Moto X (1st Gen) used to hide lock screen on a voice command

I keep a pin code lock on my Motorola Moto X (1st Generation). Until fairly recently, whenever I would use a voice command, the lock screen would be hidden temporarily and I would see a Google Now card with whatever I asked for on it. Interacting with the Now card would require my pin to unlock. I am not sure when exactly it happened, but now when I do a voice command, the lock screen remains up and the phone sometimes goes back to sleep before the voice command can be completed. Has anyone else had this happen, and does anyone know of a fix? I'd prefer to not have to rely on a Bluetooth pairing and I'd like to keep the pin to unlock enabled.

In settings, go to touchless control and set the option to speak pin to unlock. There is also the section for commands that will work without unlocking, go in there and set the option to allow Google commands to work.
