Re: Moto Hint

This is far more exciting to me than a watch. My biggest questions:

  • Will this work just as well with the original Moto X, or other phones?
  • Does it just turn on Google Now, or will it read cards that are currently only visual? (If it just starts Google Now, I can already do that with my Moto HX550 for $30)
This is just Google Now on steroids. It calls upon Google Now, you just have the hands-free super small spy earpiece now. :)

Re: Motorola Hint

I guess I would assume you can do audio streaming, it just doesn't have buttons and is (of course) mono. It'd be very cool if they could offer a stereo version. I think what you were indicating - touch sensitive controls, is the only audio controls that could make sense with something like this. But I can also understand that since they weren't really targeting music streaming with this, that making it completely touchless makes sense. Perhaps if they could make another model with the touch control, and that would pair with this model to create a stereo experience and provide controls, and have zero wires?

Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but I haven't seen any hands-free BT units that can do audio streaming. They only pair with a Phone profile, so it allows you to have hands-free voice control and make/receive calls, but not stream audio to it. I don't mind about the controls that much, really. I can just tell it to skip a track or pause it if the voice command is supported, right? :)

Motorola's SD-11 Bluetooth headphones will do a lot of what you are asking for. I use them in the gym and when running/biking. They aren't touch-less, but with one touch of a button you can activate all the Moto X's voice controls.

Those are a lot more bulky than what I'm talking about. If you just had 2 in-ear things the size of the Hint with no connecting wires, that would be pretty sweet IMO.

I just tested, and my Jabra Extreme bluetooth headset streams music. I don't have any idea how common the feature is, but it certainly exists.

Re: Moto Hint

So this is just a Blue toothed earpiece?

Pick up phone calls and a little more, huh.

Personally, I'm expecting a bit more than that. My current earpiece, the Moto HX500, is a $35 device that is small, and connects to Google Now. My biggest gripes are: most of the Google Now info is still screen-based, and it turns the screen on in my pocket even if the info is being read.

So I'm hoping the Hint can, at the very least, transcribe more info that would appear on-screen in Google Now, and be smart enough to know that the request is coming from the Hint and not turn on the screen.

Re: Motorola Hint

But yeah, I haven't seen any hands-free devices that support audio streaming other than calls, so...

Well, in a small corner of the market, people with hearing aids can actually stream music or calls or other audio directly from their phones (or tablet or computer or whatever) to their hearing aids. They can stream either directly to their hearing aids or by wearing a small device that acts as a go-between. Voice commands with the Moto X have the audio played directly into the hearing aids.

Re: Motorola Hint

I'm looking forward to the Moto Hint. It's an extension of the touchless controls that I enjoy so much. But without a review of the product, I can't really gauge what it can/can't do. I'd like for it to be able to read notifications or texts or Google Now cards to me. And be able to give me turn-by-turn directions without looking at the phone. It would also be nice if it could tell you who is calling when the phone rings. The only other real issue is the price. Even if it does all of the things I listed above, $150 is too steep, and I'd have to wait for it to go on sale somewhere.

Re: Moto Hint

I just preordered the Hint, I am excited because most of the day I work in a millshop that requires hearing protection and I am also the phone salesman for the location and I often miss multiple calls when I go into the shop. So I am hoping this will work under the big ear muffs and I can hear the calls and notifications.

Re: Moto Hint

I hope they'll eventually add some form of ear-hook. Earbuds don't stay in reliably for me.

Re: Moto Hint

I'm looking forward to reviews talking about the audio pass-through. The thing I dislike most about having a bluetooth headset in for extended periods of time is feeling like I'm hearing the world in mono.

Re: Motorola Hint

I like to listen to podcasts while at work or walking the dog. I can live without stereo.

From the spec sheet, it looks like the Hint does A2DP; I think that is the profile that enables streaming audio...

Samsung HM3700 Stereo Bluetooth Wireless Headset: Cell Phones & Accessories

I've been using it all day, every day for a couple of years to listen to podcasts while I'm working. People think it's weird that I have a headset on all day at my desk, but that's another story. :p If I want to listen to stereo music, I can plug in the included ear buds on a wire and listen to it like that. But I actually find myself just listening to it in mono most of the time while I'm working so I can still hear my coworkers out of my other ear!

That's why the Hint interests me, but $150? I'll wait.

Re: Moto Hint

I preordered on Monday and it says sept 30th

Have you received your hint?

Been trying to order one for wife for looong time. Site says out of stock every day :-(

If you did receive, what's your impression? Can you compare it to other BT headsets you've used? And finally, what do you like/dislike about it most?
