Moto X 2014 Why are the pictures I am receiving via text message black and white and not in color?

On the 2014 Moto X using the stock messaging app incoming text message with pictures are all black and white no color. Outgoing messages send in color. Any body else having this issue or had this issue and know of a fix?

If you save the picture and then go to the gallery, is the pic still BW?

Yes. Even once saved to gallery photo is still black and white.

that is super strange

and can you confirm this also from sending a color pic from a different phone to your phone?

Yes, I can be standing next to the person sending the color photo and it comes through as black and white for me. Also part of a group text color to everyone else and black and white to me.

I don't yet have the phone to confirm anything with you, regardless though I'd say that this is unintended behavior and you should be getting pic in color.
Have you contacted moto yet (for a replacement)?
If you have minimal data on it, and don't mind setting email and apps up again, perhaps a factory reset could help

Try using hangouts for SMS/MMS instead

A reset or using Hangouts both solid options. I was just wondering if I had a setting turned on or off incorrectly.

I think you're receiving pictures from 1850.

So I thought I had a glitch earlier today but out of 4 pictures received one of them was b&w. I was using hangouts and it was an MMS message. Sounds like some sort of a bug

I have had the phone for a week and a half now and I wojld say about 50% of the pictures that come in via text are black and white. Not sure what is going.on.

I see it's happening to others too. Now that I have my phone (only few days), I'll monitor and report back if anything, however so far no problems.
