Re: Moto X (2nd gen): Is 5.1 available for the pure edition?
So, since I have not seen any memory leak issues... how are you seeing these issues? Is it specific apps you are seeing these issues with?
Secondly, if 5.1.1 has not even been release how do you know it has not fixed the issue? Or did some announcement slip by without me seeing it. Where is this announcement? And where is the links to these memory leak issues? Provide some links might help.
If you are speaking to me -- specific apps? How about the phone app. Or the camera app. Or when I launch Google Play Music, sometimes it literally takes 5 seconds to open the app (enough time that I think I didn't actually tap on the icon, until it suddenly launches and I realize that yes, indeed, I DID tap the icon).
I did NOT have these issues right off the bat. I did not have these issues when I used my phone very minimally. When I first got my Moto X 2014, I didn't use my phone all that much, but at the same time, I ditched my android tablet and so began relying on my phone more for apps like PayPal, eBay, Etsy (I sell on eBay and Etsy). I routinely use my phone to snap quick photos for a lot of things. My mother is also an etsy seller, and we often share our recent creations with one another during phone calls -- so, quite often, I will put my phone on speaker and launch the camera app to snap a photo that I'll send to her via hangouts. On one particularly bad day, my beloved Moto X 2014 decided that each time I launched the camera app, it hung up my phone call (and it did this 3 times in a row, each time exactly the same way). For reference, I have very few apps installed. The ones I do are generally mainstream/well known apps from trusted companies & developers. I have no issues with excessive battery drain. I have no issues in general except the well-known lollipop bugs that you can read about on almost any forum across the internet. Phantom apps that appear when you clear the recent apps list. App launch lag (to some degree). App performance -- I've had the Play Store lock up just installing an app update! Google Play Music will also simply fail to play music (like the player portion is broken) -- but this, I believe, is an app specific issue, even though I've never seen it before recently.
The one issue I've had almost since the beginning is the slow launching of some apps, most especially Google Play Music -- an app I use every day. I jog every morning and use my phone to play music via an All-Access subscription through Google Play Music. The first time the app took a long time to launch, I thought it was me. I thought I hadn't actually touched the icon on my home screen, but then the app will launch, right about the time I'm about to tap the icon again, thinking I somehow missed it. My husband also has this issue, but until I said something about it, he thought it was just his big fat fingers not being terribly accurate on the screen.
These things are insanely annoying when you have to reboot your phone to make them stop for a little while -- and the key really is that a REBOOT makes things behave again for awhile. Without fail, if my phone reaches 200 hours of uptime, the lag is disgusting (like right now, my phone sits at 165 hours uptime and it's starting to get annoying). When I reboot and my phone speeds up, it's like having a toothbrush that uses a regular AA battery -- you don't even realize just how slow it's gotten until you put in fresh batteries! Suddenly, with a reboot, my phone functions the way it should! But again, by the time I near anywhere close to 200 hours of uptime... yep, back down the drain it has gone.
Some people seem to not have these kinds of problems on 5.0, and others seem to have it to a horrible, almost unbearable degree. I probably fall somewhere in the middle. But it makes me not want any phone that runs 5.0 right now. It kind of seems like the more you do on your phone, the worse the problem is. My husband hates his Moto X 2014 because his problem is even worse than mine (he plays a lot of games on his phone). So, like most normal folks would, I am hopeful that at least SOME of these issues are fixed in 5.1. If I had fewer of these issues, in all likelihood, I'd be much more tolerant of the issues I have. I'm a pretty patient person, usually, but this has me feeling a lot like I did back when Asus abandoned the TF101 firmware after absolutely borking it with their ICS update.
With regards to the 5.1.1 thing -- the reason everyone believes that 5.1.1 fixes the memory leak(s) is because the leak (still?) present in 5.1 was apparently fixed internally at Google between 5.1 and 5.1.1. I cannot recall exactly where I read these things, as I read them at least a week or so ago. Some were news articles, other stuff was posted in places like XDA discussions & reddit posts -- rumors, really. If you really want to know more about all of this, Google it.

There is no shortage of news & complaints regarding 5.0, 5.1 and 5.1.1.
