Having both used the Moto X and the Nexus 5 for about a week each you won't notice much of a difference in 4.4, It's really not that big of a deal. The only thing that you will notice is the dialer which is pretty cool when it automatically looks up who's calling you when they are not in your contacts. But that's it.
You should also know that some of my apps didn't work so great on the Nexus 5. My email app Kaiten (based on K-9) hid the first 3 lines on all my emails, something that other people complained about on their app store. I had to reply to an email in order to read it, that way I could scroll down to the message and read it. I really could care less about 4.4 and you will too
