Moto X Pure Edition: Various Reviews

Re: Is the Moto X Pure a great device? Or is it simply good enough?

Are you for getting the fast updates of it bit dealing with carriers and the fact that you can buy it unlocked to use wherever.. That alone makes it a great phone

Re: Is the Moto X Pure a great device? Or is it simply good enough?

Just order one and if you don't like it send it back. LG g4 international version was on sale for $420 before but now it's like $475.

I think it should be good enough, but the price is also not steep so it should be fine. If they had a fingerprint scanner and higher end processor like 810 then probably it would have been perfect carrying thru the next year, but with current specs it should be good enough but keep in mind the price as well.

We definitely want the 808 over the 810.

Re: Is the Moto X Pure a great device? Or is it simply good enough?

You know I have got to believe that the poor slobs (nice way to say the manufacturers) who actually build these phones probably pull their hair out trying to "guess" what people want, and are willing to buy. Everybody wants the perfect phone...according to their personal idea of what a perfect phone is....but it will never exist for economic reasons. The manufacturers economic reasons, not ours!
This person wants a fingerprint reader, while that person couldn't care less about a fingerprint reader. This guy wants more RAM while that guy says 3 gigs is enough. Many want a camera that can take pictures as good as a $5000.00 camera takes. And we all want a battery that will last 72 hours straight even though we can charge it overnight or for 10 minutes and get 10 more hours. Put in a bigger battery and it weighs too much and is too thick.
I want amoled, I want waterproof, I want LCD but only IPS or better. I hate LCD because I cannot look at it sideways with my sunglasses on!
Now imagine trying to build a phone that will please the most people, and still get enough sales to make a profit? Tough market to be in!

Re: moto x pure not being as fast as other flagships???

Great video and like you I am hoping battery life is good but I am really sceptical about it with that Quad screen and that size battery as my G3 had the same screen/battery and that was awful!

My G3 battery life has been solid going on over a year now. I've never has it not get me through the day and I use it quite a bit

Re: Is the Moto X Pure a great device? Or is it simply good enough?

A common phrase I found in most of the reviews for this device was "good enough"

The processor is not great, but it's good enough.

Battery life is not phenomenal, but it's good enough.

The camera, while a massive improvement over previous Moto devices, isn't great, but it's good enough.

I find that I get so close to pulling the trigger and ordering one, staring at that black body with blue accents admiring how good it looks, but I just can't do it...I can't convince myself that I'm not settling for "good enough". The biggest hang up for me is the uncertainty with the camera, and while I'm sure it's improved I just don't trust Moto with it. I'm waiting to see real results from buyers and definitely more low light samples.

What do you folks think? Is the Pure a great device looking towards the future, or is it just something to bridge the short gap until something better comes along?

Agreed. The camera is my biggest concern as well. I'm definitely waiting until I see numerous reviews on it before I order

Re: Is the Moto X Pure a great device? Or is it simply good enough?

When you are paying 60% of what comparable phones cost, you have to consider value. I think that is what these reviews are failing to do. So, yeah, compared to $700 phones, the Pure might be "good enough" but compared to other $400 phones it is great.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Moto marketing this thing as a flagship, the likes of which can compete with the G4's and note 5's of the world? Throw the price out for a minute, if they want to compete with these the X can't be simply "good enough."

I don't think they are planning to market it as, "it's good enough, you get what you pay for."

To me the Moto X Pure is actually a mid range device. Which is why its only $399 . Remember the one plus one was touted as the "flagship killer"? Well that's what Moto is going for here IMO. A phone with good specs that can compete favorably with $600-$800 phones. Moto made a big splash with budget phones, I feel they're trying to do the same with the mid range market. So I don't expect the Moto X to beat much more expensive phones, and I'm OK with that.

Re: Is the Moto X Pure a great device? Or is it simply good enough?

The Moto X is not a mid-range device. It is a flagship level device being sold directly to consumers at wholesale price. The $200+ is the delta between retail and wholesale price.

Mid Range? What about the Moto X is Mid Range apart from the price?

I bet if it was piced at the same level as the G4 or othet flagships people wouldnt call it mid range.

LG G4 and S6 are sold pretty much similar price if you look for international model though. I really hope moto x pure edition is par with these flagships! We'll find out!

my first order hasn't shipped, but my second one has... be here the 14th...
but the time line still says both are being built.

Only after their prices were slashed after time or weak sales (or both).

LCD screen vs AMOLED
808 processor
No wireless charging
No fingerprint scanner
Camera performance

You can debate whether you want/care about these features, but all of the "high range" devices, (note 5, S6 edge+, LG G4, upcoming LG G4 pro/note, the two nexus phones if you want to throw those in) have them. I know the G4 has the same processor, but the G4 was released several months ago and has wireless charging ability, fingerprint scanner and (probably) a better camera, although that is yet to be determined.

I think this is a problem for Motorola.... If a group of Android enthusiasts, who are seriously considering getting this phone, can't figure out if it's hands down the best mid range phone in the world, or just an average high end device, how are they going to get it in the hands of the average Joe consumer?

Pretty certain there is no fingerprint scanner on the G4.

My phone arrives some time today. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried about the battery. Engadget called it "mediocre" and for anyone to call a battery mediocre is enough to warrant some serious scrutiny of the device.
Gonna charge it full then blast away and see how long I can last straight internet, video, and texting.

I agree that battery is the biggest question. I don't care about wireless charging or fingerprint scanner and the camera will be leagues ahead of my droid Maxx. I do find it's funny how convenient it is that people seem to forget the software experience, including Moto enhancements as well as that some people actually use it as a cell phone and not just a mini computer and entertainment device.
