Moto X2: 4.7" vs 5" screen

There is no reason to have an edge to edge display, besides bragging rights. It means your hand will be on the phone so, there would have to be some palm rejection technology, then, the buttons may be moved to somewhere that may not be as natural as off to the side (see LG G2), and with an edge to edge to display cases will be limited, and it may shatter more easily upon dropping it, seeing as the screen is the edge.

Agreed!

The glass is already at the the edge! But I would advocate for 1-2mm bezels on the sides.

You probably don't want a true edge to edge phone, but 1 or 2 mm on each side would be enough to prevent accidental edge touches.

In terms of cases, they simply wouldn't wrap around the face much if at all, though they would artificially widen the phone and create a case bezel.

So you agree an edge to edge display is not a good idea? As you say, bezel is needed so your hands aren`t on the screen. The best "edge to edge" screen I like was the Droid Razr M and I use it as of now because my Moto X is broken and the main complaint I have is the fact with little bezel it is harder to type as there is little bezel to put your hand on to type comfortably. Though because of the devices shape and size viewing video is nice, which is the only possible reason for edge to edge is that media may look nicer, but other than that there are some serious usability drawbacks to edge to edge.

Moto Droid Razr M Side Bezels = 3.7mm each

Moto X side bezels = 3.4mm

LG G2 side bezels = 3mm

Numbers based on screen dimensions and reported phone sizes.

Yes, some bezel is probably helpful in the design. Though a TRUE edge to edge phone would look much sharper, it would probably need to ignore touches on the sides for 1 or 2 mm.

I'm thinking that, if this comes out with a 5 or 5+ inch screen, I'll try to pick up the original. That phone's dimensions and ergonomics are it's best points, given its performance capabilities, a leaner Kit Kat OS, and nearly pure Google Android experience, plus the minimal but very useful Moto mods. I have a GS4, and while the screen is beautiful, it's a little too big to comfortably use with one hand. If they are still available.

I loved my Moto x but quickly sold it solely due to the camera. If you don't use the camera then it's an outstanding phone and over of my favorites. However, I have two kids and trying to take pictures of them was a joke. My wife made me sell because every pic I sent her was horrible. Again that was my only complaint so I'm just hoping they improve the camera then my nexus 5 is gone.

My vote goes for the screen size to stay 4.7". Since I had the Moto X I haven't yet said " I wish the screen was bigger".
I for sure would not want buttons on the back .

The camera may not be the best feature of the phone ,but for what I need from a cell phone camera it works for me .But I would assume the Moto X 2 would have a better camera.

As far as screen size Moto X 2 = 4.7"
