Motomaker vs Carrier (AT&T)

I've finally decided on this phone. The LG G2 had my attention there for a while, but the kicker was this update to the software improving camera quality. Anyway I typically preach to buy straight from AT&T corporate stores so that you deal directly with them with problems and such. They do a pretty good job trying to keep their customers happy. My wife had to trade out a phone twice because of different issues (Nokia 920), and for the 3rd phone they told her to get whatever phone she wanted, regardless of price difference, no extra cost. She could have even gotten the $300 Nokia 1020, but ended up going with the HTC One on my recommendation. (Moto X not out at that time)

However, the motomaker is a cool idea. What's the general take on this? Mostly I don't care too much about color, would mostly like to have buttons and camera ring a different color, but whatever.. Black is fine. Might go with the navy blue back if I order from motomaker. But if I do, now AT&T sends me through motorola for any potential issues it sounds like? I would hate to lose the convenience of AT&T's handling of my potential defects (I usually get lucky in this department anyway), but if most of you all figure it's a wash or know that AT&T will still handle it even if I bought from motomaker, that will probably be the route I go.

Thanks for sticking with me here, any input appreciated..

Theres issues carriers take care of, and issues OEM's take care of. If you order from Moto Maker, your still with AT&T for service. Pretty sure.

When I ordered through Motomaker, I was told that if I have "ANY" issues, I contact Motorola directly. If it was a case where they'd have to send me another device, they would place a hold on my Credit Card for $199.99, send me another device and once they received my device, they would release the hold on my credit card. ATT told me the same thing.

However, if I got a Moto X ( white or black version) directly from ATT, then I go through ATT like I do with all my other ATT phones.

^^ This was my understanding as well. Sort of akin to to purchasing a Google device from the play store. Motorola's support site is setup to make all of this as easy as possible and to track your issues (should you have any) when they arise. Just link your Google account, input the IMEI and away you go.

Personally the things I like about the Motomaker are

32Gb
Assembled in USA

I'm not entirely thrilled by the colors offered and Unless they add a nice forest Green my Primary color would be Black.

Of course I'm on VZW and not buying until Christmas so who knows what could change between now and then.

All moto x's (carrier + motomaker) are assembled in usa ..no difference. Moto x's shipping to Canada and Latin america are assembled in China ..
