Motorola's newest RAZR's might just cut Motorola due to dullnes

Re: Motorola's newest RAZR's might just cut Motorola due to dulln

Except it doesn't. The way android works, unused ram is wasted. You will not notice any performance difference whatsoever between one and two gb of ram on an android phone.

I have been lied to then by lots of tech professionals who say otherwise. I am not saying you're wrong, I just am confused now. Can they not optimize the phone to utilize the excess RAM? I thought more RAM allowed for faster processing speed due to all the dedicated memory used to complete user requests.

ok for everyone talking about how the s3 NEEDS the memory because of how bloated TW is why then did the international s3 only get 1gig ?? not only that but why does everybody get so defensive about a phone ? if samsung can put out the s3 with 2gigs no reason moto cant do the same . sure you may not need it now but who knows what apps or games may be availible a year from now . furthermore i would bet that in a year from now moto will be releasing phones with 2gigs of ram . mean while samsung will be at 3 or 4 gigs of ram . just like i bet the camera on this phone will still be subpar compared to everything else out there . sure moto has great build and radio's but there no longer head and shoulders better than everyone else . and yes ive owned the maxx and the X and most of the rest and compared the maxx head to head with the rezound and the s3. the maxx and the rezound was basically a tie in the signal dept while the s3 was just slightly behind . this was in a major fring area. i gave up on moto a while back there stuff is really no better than anybody else anymore . now flame away!

Three words: carrier installed software. The Verizon s3 has a ton of touch wiz processes that are related entirely to Verizon software installed as part of the OS.

The international version also runs a quad-core processor.

People need to get over this spec-war mentality.

Linux and unix systems fill the ram they have available. When they run out of processes to do that, or the OS is set to not allow caching beyond a certain point, then the ram is wasted. Android is designed to be smart (really smart) about the way it uses system sources. More ram is simply not necessary unless you have a bloated skin or boatload of extra system processes.

Again, I am not disagreeing with you, but how has TW been bloated? I always hear people absolutely bashing TW, Blur, Sense, etc... but i've never understood why. Is it because it comes with a lot of bloatware apps that no one on the planet would ever use? Or is there just tons of extra processing occuring because the code is written poorly?

Here's the simplest way to explain it.

Consider Linux as one layer and Android as a layer on top of that. That's 2 layers, right?

Well, add TouchWiz. That's 3. Then add TW specific apps like S Voice and all that stuff. That can be, arguably, 4.

So with a Nexus, for example, you have 2 layers. TW is 3-4. And that 3rd layer is heavy, heavy, heavy.

hey boss i dont need to get over anything . period . maybe people need to stop making excuses for there favorite brand name and look at it from the view point of the more competition in the smart phone arena the better we as customers have it . there is a reason samsung is killing moto and its not from offering just enough .

The shiz? Who are you even referencing? Just because someone likes something that you don't, doesn't mean they are making excuses. And personally, if Motorola makes phones I like, I don't care how they stack up to Samsung on the stock market. All I care is that their end product fits my style. And that's coming from someone who loves the Razr Maxx but is considering switching to the S3 or the Note 2 if it comes to Verizon. Not because Samsung makes more money than Moto, but because I make logical choices based off of sensible reasons.

I actually really have enjoyed TouchWiz on my Note 10.1 the last two weeks. That's why I asked what made it "bloated". Thanks for the breakdown. Do more layers = more potential for problems? Like the more complicated it is, the bigger the chance of having lockdowns and stuff? Sorry, of all the things I know with smartphones.........skins are not one of them.

Obviously. But when you make senseless posts on a public thread, you're kind of talking to everyone. Especially when you bash an opinion that the majority shares.

Apparently I'm making too many excuses for Motorola not putting 2GB of RAM in these new RAZRs.

Clearly size matters to you.

I guess Motorola doesn't need to make up for any "shortcomings".

If 2GB RAM isn't need for a phone to perform smoothly, then manufacturers don't need to put 2GB RAM in a phone.

Wait, what? Moto isn't putting 2 GB of RAM in the new Razr's? Well then.....consider my life over. I just can't possibly select a different device and move on.

Whatever happened to being efficient and only using what you need?

It has a LOT more processes running than stock android. That's what makes it bloated.

Yup. That's the best and simplest way to put it. Like doesn't S Voice have that "always on" feature? I would imagine that would just devour resources like it was some sort of all consuming black hole.

But generally, the more layers = more processes, more expenditures, more power needed.
