Moto's Bionic is Dead?

I've been reading on the thread for about 2 weeks now. And the phone does seem to be coming out, i try to avoid rumors; but IF the due 'delay' or 'cancel' the droid bionic all together, imo, it would be so people wont be able to stay on the old unlim data plans for 4g so they'd get money for the limited data.. just saying.

I am done with this back and forth. Just ordered an HTC Thunderbolt and am not lookin back!

Not sure what prompted you to buy the TB, so I'll assume it's because you're simply tired of waiting for the Bionic to be released. I too was contemplating this move, but then I realized what a foolish move that would be....

Yes, LTE is one of the reasons I want the Bionic. But that's not enough to warrant an upgrade for me. I also am looking forward to the qHD display, dual-core processors and DDR2 memory. The TB only has 1 out of the 3 items above. So, it's a no-go for me.

I will, however, consider another similar phone to the Bionic. Problem is, I don't think one exists just yet, correct? :-\

Motorola: Droid Bionic Will Launch With Verizon Wireless In Summer

By Roger Cheng, Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc. (MMI) said that the Droid Bionic, a 4G smartphone, will launch with Verizon Wireless in the summer.

Motorola pushed back the timing of the launch to incorporate new features into the phone, which was originally slated to launch in the second quarter. While the phone may ship to carriers in time, a launch may occur in the third quarter.

"Based on compelling feedback since the show, we are incorporating several enhancements to make this an even better consumer experience," a Motorola spokeswoman said.

Many had speculated that the Droid Bionic was scrapped in favor of another model. It was one of four smartphones that Verizon Wireless held up during the Consumer Electronics Show in January during the presentation of its 4G service. Motorola Chief Executive Sanjay Jha also touted the device during his CES presentation.

Delayed for a better experience??

Hope this means more ram, even though 512DDR2 is more than enough.

Still though, i hope they dont change the exterior design.

OMFG hope this is true, and do anyone have a full WSJ account to read the whole article?

Delayed Bionic is better than no Bionic. But still Summer is a long time away.

Here it is:

Verizon Wireless so far has only one 4G smartphone, the HTC Corp. (HTCXF, 2498.TW) Thunderbolt, available to customers.

Verizon Wireless is jointly owned by Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ) and Vodafone Group PLC (VOD, VOD.LN).

Motorola shares fell 2.3% to $23.03 in recent trading.

Looks like there might still be hope to see it in May.
"While the phone may ship to carriers in time, a launch may occur in the third quarter."

ah, crap (this is good/bad news!) as I literally was about to order a TB, but really should upgrade before I go on my trip in 20 days for a dependable device.
Oh what to do now...? I really want the B, but my D1 just is slowly dying.

Its sad cuz i thought i would be more excited that it will be a later release but in the summer...sorry need a phone within 2-3 weeks due to current phone issues. Hoping the Charge hits the stores on its rumored day or within the 2-3 weeks. Ill only be using this phone until oct though and will be using another upgrade to grab either the Targa or another hopefully duel-core phone Verizon may release.

Um, really this announcement only says there will be a phone named the "Bionic" released by Moto.

As I posted in another thread - this article doesn't eliminate the possibility that the Targa is being ramped up to replace the Bionic at all. If you read it carefully - they said a Q3 release in the end of the 2nd paragraph. That still falls in line with the Targa replacing the Tegra Bionic.

The real devil will be in the details when they get closer to release and publish the "updated" specs. I can easily see Moto spinning this as "Oh, and we upgraded the processor to the OMAP4". The public will see it as one thing, but those of us who have been following this closely will know what that really means.

Ergo Sum: no real news here.

I guess we will have to wait to find out if there were problems or if it was truly an upgrade when more info is released.
