Moved to iOS

I cannot believe how often some people change their phones - you must be the "cash cows" that the mobile manufacturers love and you are the people who fund development of new phones. I have a year old s7 edge and unless it breaks there would have to be something really special to make me consider changing in less than 2-3 years. As for iOS I never felt totally in control of my device when I had it and it would need to become a much more open system before I would consider it again.

"Cash cow"? No. But having a good job with expendable income? Yes. Personally, I can do pretty much what I want when I want because I haven't yet fallen into the trap of producing smelly kids.

na if you sell the old one and get a new one pretty quick you can usually recoup a lot of the cost. Not always all but a good hunk.

In my case it’s working quite OK. For example I got my pixel 2 through my carrier for a discounted price. Used it for a month or so and then sold it and only paid an extra 100 to get the iPhone X. I always keep my phones in mint condition and I never pay full price for any phone. I normally spend an extra $100-150 for the phones I want.

Idk about that...a lot of people who leave Android for iOS usually stick to it. I did say a lot, so there are people who go back to android. I was an iPhone user then android then iPhone and tried to go to the pixel 2 but returned to my iPhone X. To me iOS is just so cohesive (iMessage and FaceTime) and the form factor of the X is like no other device. The OLED screen is quite impressive and yeah iOS may be boring but the phone is pretty stellar. I think once android users who switch see how well iOS performs, they then start using the saying “it just works!”

I have an iPhone 7 for work and a Pixel 2 for personal use. I prefer Android. Oh, I have an iPhone SE at home that I play with, but it's a different class, so I don't count it. Some people like one, some like the other. I'm glad there are options to choose from.

Yeah, this. I used to do this all the time. Not so much anymore as I'm sticking with one alot longer, but that was definitely doable.

Agreed. Doable but I am slowing down now since I am content w/ my Pixel 2 XL. I will wait until the Pixel 3.

Picking up a P3 would be an annual upgrade and I'm wondering if I will be able to get past that one year mark myself. The P2 is so smooth I don't know what could be in the P3 to be enticing enough to pick one up. If I do pass on the P3 it will be the first time in a very long time I have passed that one year mark. Once there was a time when upgrades were so innovative that we had to have them but anymore imo they are not as exciting and manufacturerers struggle to make them interesting especially at the new price points.
I just may keep the P2 till the wheels fall off or till the battery craps out then see what's available. And.....if the P3 surprises me then? But besides a minimally faster processor, maybe smaller bezels , camera is already fabulous, not enough to do it for me.

If you like playing with different phones. Try to get an iPhone X. It’s kinda cool to see what they’ve done with this display and how far iOS has come around. It still has its own restrictions but so far I’m liking what Apple has done. I used iOS for 5 years and then android/windows for the next 6 years. Now back to iOS.

Yeah I have played with the iPhone x pretty much. To me it's not worth the price of admission. I do have an iPhone 7 though which I actually like quite a lot. The 7 remains as my backup device. I swap out to it occasionally but find myself getting bored with it more quickly these days. I just wish the iPhone would give us more control over the home screen grid. Not everybody agrees with that but that's my biggest pet peeve, other than that it's an awesome OS. I have an iPad and a MacBook Pro as well. I always did like the way everything syncs together. enjoy your X.

That is my biggest pet peeve about iOS as well. My remedy is only one app (Calendar) on the home screen, in addition to the bottom four. Swiping left gets me to all my other apps, or swipe right and I use the recent app widget. Best I can get it.

I had iPhone X but returned it and bought Pixel 2 XL black and white. I simply find I like the 2 XL. With the X, I had to try to force myself to like the notch (or not notice it) and face id. With the 2 XL, everything 'just works'. I like it without trying to like it. My experience may not be shared by everyone, however I'm slowly leaning towards Android these days. :)

Yes. Pixel 2 is a great phone and I really wanted to keep it. But it’s just the android ui I can’t live with. But everything is super fast and the camera is amazing. I’ve traded that for an iPhone X now. Still miss the camera of pixel.

For me it is just those damn notifications. I can't stand them on iOS. If that got fixed that would my biggest gripe (a few small ones would still exist but nothing game breaking).

Same. iOS notifications are useless and messy.

I don't think they ever will. Apple has always been all about a closed experience.

By locking things down and preventing people from fiddling with the OS too much they prevent a lot of user errors that get blamed on the OS.

My technically challenged friends and family all have iPhones. They can pick up an iPhone and just use it. No launchers, widgets, etc... to figure out.

Update after using iPhone X for a couple of weeks:
Surprisingly I’m not bored of iOS yet. I think it’s mainly because of how good this phone looks and how well everything works. Sure I miss OK google and google now. Siri sucks in comparison. But overall it’s been pretty good so far. For some reason I love the Apple mail as supposed to many android mail programs I tried. Hard to explain. I do a lot of emails on my phone. Camera on pixel 2 is definitely better. Stellar battery life on iPhone X. I get more than 9 hours of screen time and I use app this phone more than pixel 2. Thai’s is a big on for me. Lasts easily the whole day which was never the case with pixel 2. Most of the apps I use are so much better on iOS. So far so good. I’ll keep you posted as I use it more

As a matter of interest, what are some of the apps you use frequently that are better on iOS. Not asking to be a pain. I've heard this before, and while I used an iPhone 6S Plus for a while, and an iPhone 7 plus for a month, I didn't find any apps that I used better.

I use Slack, MS Office apps, several games like Subway Surfer, YouTube (Red), Google Music, OneNote, Google Keep, Facebook, FB Messenger, WhatsApp, Bloomz, US Bank, Yelp, etc.

I use podcasts a lot. The default podcasts app on iOS is do much nicer on iOS. Even my banking app is better. My credit card company only has Apple Pay. Not android. And it works so well and I don’t take out my CC at all now. Other apps I use that are better on iOS. - ESPN, Apple mail, OneDrive.

Pocketcasts. Highly recommend. Probably the best podcast app for android / iOS.
