Hi,

What are some favorite programs for converting desktop videos (mp4's, mkv's) into files playable natively on the N7?

Thanks.

As a point of fact... what is nexus 7 native formats. I have a large collection of movies and they are often using varying forms of audio codecs or video codecs.

My nexus is often hit or miss when it comes to the audio playing or not but 99% of the time video works fine.

Very curious cause there's some things i'd like to take with me soon

The included movie player is junk. Download MX player from the GP store. It plays about any format you got either using Software or Hardware decoding.
The best video format is .mp4. It's a container, so SD and HD vids can be .mp4. HD .mp4s are H.264 and MX player can use HW+ decoding on them. They are also up to 4 times smaller than .vob or .mpg files. For audio in video files, you can't go wrong with AC3.

Hand break. By far the best and most flexible software for conversion and it's free and has no ads or anything.

I already do use mx player pro paid and the codec download as well. I I mostly play mkv files and as stated mine are hit or miss on the sound even after trying all settings and decoding. Video always audio sometimes. I would give examples of files but perhaps that not the best idea eh?

I had that problem...won't play sound with hardware decoding but will will software decoding so just change that worked fine with mine.

Going back to original post I use handbrake.

Great topic, I was just about to start one. Instead of messing around with Handbrake settings (which is quite good if you have some knowledge of video settings or like to experiment) I used DVD Catalyst 4, it has a built in Nexus 7 setting and converted several movies.

I had a great experience with it, nice interface and easy to use. Fairly quick as well.

Here's the link, there's a purchase link in the first paragraph (what I used) and it costs $9.95.

Also.....get MX player from the Play Store. Works like a charm.

That link to dvd catalyst with nexus 7 output mode is the most superior and affordable method here. I thank you for that link
