Moving the Google Search widget off Home screen

Android newbie question... from some googling around, it seems that the home screen Google Search box has been getting more locked-down over the years, and that moving/hiding/deleting it is vendor and maybe even phone specific.

Has anyone figured out the trick for the G5 (Plus)? The Search box doesn't respond to the tools that the other widgets do. I'm happy to swipe right or open Chrome when I need to google, I'd just rather not look at that big white box every time I open the phone.

Probably not. It's the same type of thing on the Pixel phones. You can't do anything to the date/weather widget on the stock pixel launcher. If you install another launcher like Nova you can set it up the way you want.

Welcome to the forums. I can move it around or even delete it after a long press on the search bar. My model is the Moto G5S Plus, though. Maybe that's only possible on Moto models running android 7.1.1. I'll check later on my wife's G5 plus.

Checked on the G5 plus and couldn't find a way to remove the widget. Strange, the stock launcher is Launcher3 while on the G5S plus it's the Moto app Launcher.

As can3gxw said, I think your best option is using a custom launcher.
