The update instructions in post #232...

Is that for a rooted phone only or will it work on unrooted phone?

Peaches, highlight the 2400258.cfg and hit the button "F2". Then type in "update.zip". If it is asking to open, you must be double clicking. You are not suppose to open the file until you reboot. I really want YOU to get this update since you are the original poster. I will try to come back to make sure you get it going.

I changed the file name to update.zip but when I located it says update.zip.cfg..I can't figure out how to remove that..I think thats why I cant find file when I follow tjose instructions. .:(

Those instructions are for unrooted devices, but if you follow the link there are also instructions for rooted devices.

As a side note. After I did the manual update my auto brightness stopped working, and my camera would only take pics in landscape. For some reason my camera controls wouldn't rotate.

I preformed a factory reset, and now everything is working perfect.

WOW!

Okay, another person here who has been waiting for 2 days to upgrade my Android. The phone reps at AT&T wireless are of no help. They just read off of a cue sheet and tell you how you should be upgrading your software (as if we did not know already).

Soooo, as a person who is NOT rooted, I tried the instructions above in POST #232

Be aware you need an external card. You need to download the update file from this link:

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/57597076/2400258.cfg

I will only partially repeat the instructions in that you have to rename this to UPDATE.ZIP. Then, you need to transfer that file to a location on your EXTERNAL card. I used Kies to do this from my Mac.

The good news is that this update method WORKS.

There is some bad news...

1. It will totally wipe your data on your internal card so you need to back everything up first. I used MYBACKUP PRO to do this. If you are using a launcher, be certain to also back that up those settings to an external card.

2. Some people here complain of AUTO BRIGHTNESS and CAMERA issues after upgrade. Did not experience that, but just for the heck of it, I did a FACTORY RESET after I applied the update and rebooted. This assures me that everything should be working as it should, and I would suggest doing it as precaution.

All other functions seem to work as well? Radio for LTE nd 3G unaffected as well? And what are we still okay to update again later, if there is another OTA update?

Oh and be warned this does delete the entire internal sd card. Please back up in case you want to keep your stuff.

Question. When the update comes naturally through OTA, does it also delete the internal SD, or does that only happen through the manual update?

Cleveland, Ohio. Bought the Note 2 on launch day early in the morning. Still no update for me! I check every few hours. My date is now up to late February, 2013. Getting pissed.

well i did it... like a brand new phone. reset everything. make sure when you rename the file it turns it into a zip file. thats why some peeps cant see the file. now i get to completely download and try to remember all my app again. i thought att backed up my apps..

I have July of 2013, I passed passed no I'm approaching sour grapes with a touch of hatred.

Just wondering..did anyone even bother to read what myself and another said on this issue?

I have no desire to download a file and manually update if it resets my phone and lose all my data. I would rather wait for the OTA update.

I found out from ATandT that YES. The countdown timer under check for updates is an application and if you got the date PUSHED ahead, you cannot get the update until the countdown timer counts down. ATandT also removed the clear data from the updater app so you can't clear the timer. For those of us who pushed the clock and got the timer to go to outrageous hours, you cannot get the update until the timer counts down to Zero. So for those who cannot get the update now, if you pushed the countdown timer to high hours you won't see the update for quite a while. I have to wait til Wednesday now. Sorry guys. Bombard ATandT and get them to put the update to Kies Air which they should have done to begin with. Then there would be no staggered 10% a day release of the update around the country and no TIMER app (the ATandT upgrade app.). ATandT put that updater app in due to not wanting people to bombard their network with constant requests for upgrade downloads at one time so their diamond of a network (in their eyes) won't get slowed down. Sprint released the upgrade in the wild. With ATandT we are "lucky" to be getting the update at all. Again, this should have been an online download like when the Original Note got an upgrade from Gingerbread to ICS. Keep calling ATandT and maybe they will put it online rather than on wi-fi (Over the Air).

So, in plain english, what are you saying? I've been pushing the date out further and further to check for updates. I'm now into March of 2013. What does that mean for me?

If it is saying you can't check again until 3/2013 you now will not get it before then, is what I understood from the post.

I'm not sure if Sammy can help you, but worth a try.

So why doesn't changing the date and time help this? Can't I just set the time and date past there to fix the problem?
