My Bionic

bworley50 you are the man!!!! I and everyone here really appreciate you sharing all this with us!
This looks like a great device and your posts have helped me decide to make this my next phone instead offs waiting for the phones coming down the pipeline.
I have a simple strait forward question now that you have had a few days to play with it.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate this phone?

Thanks again bworley50!

I've spoken to a verizon rep about that before, and it doesn't fly. each phone on your family plan requires that a device be assigned to it, so you can't have a line floating without a plan / device attached. since you're signing on now, you are going to end up paying and extra $10/mo. PLUS the lowest (i assume) option of the tiered data. just think to any smartphone commercial you've ever heard, "discount pricing requires 2 year contract and data plan," so you can't really buy the new line, then assign a basic phone to it. in the end, it's going to end up costing you way more (10 for the line + 30 for the data package = $40/month * 20 months (before your next upgrade to the dummy line) = $800 + 300 (the original price of the phone) = GRAND TOTAL $1100). Sorry to bring the bad news, but Verizon isn't into leaving loopholes that allow upgrades without consequence.

While your logic seems sound... You can always downgrade your plan, at any time. You USED to be locked into what ever plan you had for 2 years, but that changed a few years ago. My Dad goes on and off data as he needs with no problem.

Worse case you could get the Bionic on the new line and just have all calls from your current number forwarded to your new one... but that's not necessary.

in which case you still pay 10 for the line and $15 for the basic data monthly. still ends up costing well above what the Bionic costs at full retail.

the point being, you can do something like that, but don't be fooled into thinking that VZW would leave a loophole that puts the consumer ahead. if you get all the figures and work them out, it'll never come out in your favor.

If I add a line, I can get the Bionic at the contract price of $299, correct?
Also, I can then move the Bionic to the first line which has unlimited data. Is anybody else doing this?
For me, its the only way to get it without paying full price.
you can do this it's a win win for you and the rep.

You can use a esn of a old phone that no longer is being used one that you pitced . the rep can look that up. The way he/she can do this is add a line with a new number for 10 and the 30 dollar data feature. They do not need to actually put the sim in and activate it they really shgould nbot do this it saves hassle. After it is activated on the account they can do a esn change to aold device that will run 10 any old phone on the account that is not active they can just puch that esn or if that is not a option care can add a dummy esn. Lastly the will do a wsn change for the bionic on your line that you want it on and activate the phone again.

Make sure the rep knows to not try to *228 these phones it will not activate them that way and will simply fry the sim card.

Ha. I think it's great. Most fun I've ever had with a phone.

I've read that the Bionic has FM, and another person in this thread said it did too. I've been trying to keep a keen eye though when you show your launcher I don't see it. However since you're the one with the Bionic could you say once and for all if it has FM?

All my accessories I use are made by Moto. Guess I'm weird like that. Get the HD dock as it may come with the cable. Can't confirm that. DX dock had one, which is the one I used.

It does not have the FM radio player like on stock DX. It does have all the FM authenticators. Will send pics.

It should be Micro-HDMI (Type D) to HDMI (Type A)

I believe you want a micro hdmi cable, not mini

I won't have a data plan for both lines. My primary and current line with unlimited data will take the Bionic and the other line will have a cheap $20 phone. So the cost will be only my current monthly + $9.99 from adding a new line with the "dummy" phone.

Anyway, this is the way I understand it from Verizon and one of my friends who did it already. I was just curious how many of you are doing it as well. I will confirm with them again tomorrow at the store.

Yes, but as far as I understand once you add another line you can do a family plan and it ends up being only another $10 per month or so. And I plan on selling the Thunderbolt, so I will just have like a "dummy" line that will not be used.

You wouldn't really save anything though. Paying $9.99 + tax over the next 2 years would be the same as the difference you would pay getting it at full retail if the unit happens to sell for around $590
It will be a matter of paying that difference up front, or having it spread out over the next 2 years.

I think you need to purchase a data plan for the new line in order to be eligible for the promo price. that's my understanding of it, though i could be wrong. let me know how it works out.

not to mention, i think even basic phones require the lowest $15 tier of the data plan now that they switched to tiers.
