My Droid X randomly "restarts" itself

I just had it happen to me for the first time. Earlier today the whole phone locked up while I was texting and it reset itself that time too.

I it persists I will do a reset.

By a factory reset you do mean settings, privacy and then factory data reset? Our is there a different type of reset?

That's correct. That's what a factory reset is. It will wipe everything and will be as if you just took it out of the box so you'll have to reinstall apps and everything. Of course, contacts and gmails and things will be backed up to Google's servers but all settings and applications will be gone.

i had the same issues. I eventually exchanged my phone for another because my wife had the same model phone and hers didn't do this. I tried resetting to factory over and over again, and it helped for some time, but didn't end my misery. since the new phone, i've not had to do any resets (though it's rebooted twice in 2 weeks).

droid x rebooting

My backlight goes out during calls then reboots i have done a factory reset on both my phone i have received in the last week will they make an update for the software please until now i will have verizon sent me a 3rd phone in 7 DAYS argg

Are the users having this problem using LPP (Launcher Pro Plus) because the recent build has been causing reboot issues latly..

turn off auto rotate

I'd been quite frustrated with my X randomly rebooting, at inopportune times. I read somewhere to turn off auto rotate, and it's only rebooted once in the last 3 days, so, just a suggestion... I don't like trying to type in portrait, but if it will keep it from rebooting, I can deal with it. :-\

I am using ADW EX with auto rotation on except when on desktop and I have not had any rebooting, have you considered checking the widgets you are using because I am using all custom widget only and wonder if this may be your issue.

I have noticed this issue in the past couple of weeks myself. It never happens while I'm actually using it but I have seen it happen when its just sitting there doing nothing and a few times when I slide to unlock it. I've done a complete reset and ever re flashed the sbf but it seems to persist at random. If you guys have better luck with a replacement please post here; I really-really don't want to be redoing everything again if it wont help even if titanium backup makes it a semi simple process.

I am having this problem for past couple weeks and yes I am using LPP

Started happening with me a few weeks ago. I did not load any new apps and was running the same apps since day one. Phone was perfect for several months until this. Called Verizon, went through trouble shooting with them and the end they decided I needed a replacement.
If any of you are still having the problem after a master reset, call Verizon. You should not have to deal with this.

I want to know if people who were having the random reboot problem had it go away after putting a custom rom on their device. Wouldn't this rule out that this is a hardware problem versus a software problem?

The problem went away immediately when I switched to the Liberty ROM. Funnily enough, last week I flashed back to the original settings and unrooted my DX and the random reboots started right back up again. I was in the gym and the phone rebooted three times while I was on the treadmill. Perhaps needless to say, I went right back to Liberty that evening.

I had to dump Launcher Pro Plus for ADW EX. I really like the features, but there's clearly a glitch in the code because the Force Closes are happening way too often.

For those of you that use Launcher Pro Plus, turn off "auto rotation" in launcher pro settings. I started having random reboots quite often and as soon as I turned auto rotation off it stopped. I like LP+, hopefully it gets addressed in the next update.

This may not be related to your issue, But since purchasing my phone last month, I have noticed that sometimes when I connect my phone to my USB data cable on my computer, the phone will restart. It has also done this connecting it to my normal wall charger on occasion. It doesn't do it every single time, but more often then not.. it will restart.

Any one have a similar issue as mine?

Edit: Thought I should add, that my phone is normally set to USB Mass Storage mode, and USB Debugging is enabled. Could that be causing issues?

I'm using ADW Ex. Still no problems with reboot since I turned auto rotate off... so, unless something else comes up, I'm ok

Get it replaced. I mentioned this situation to the VZW tech and he was concerned that the issue might be hardware related. I had this happen twice; once plugging in power and the other time docking into the car dock. This should not be happening Ahowe.......good luck.

Thanks, I'm going to keep an eye on it. If it keeps happening, I'll have to uninstall some programs and un root so I can go talk to Verizon. I really don't want to have to do this, but I would rather not have it totally die on me.

Thanks for the response.

Please read my "Note" below my sig. This reset problem all too often results from the automatic updating feature for Market's downloaded apps.

One thing I forgot to mention is that you need to review your My Apps list periodically because new downloads will need to be "un"checked and/or sometimes an update will restore the auto-update feature. PITA, but what a difference it makes!!
