My Honest Take On The Charge Vs Thunderbolt Debate...Now That I Also Have A Charge

Ya I was going to get the Revo until I found out about Bing, as I have always said, put what you want on the phone but let me have the option to remove it if I dont want it, it is my phone and should have the right to decide what I want on it and what to use!

Very good comparison between the two devices. If samsung were to stay up to date with updates I'm sure they would be an even bigger player in the mobile device battle.

Exactly, updates is where Samsung sux. Someone did make a comment that since this is a droid branded handset they thought Verizon would make sure its kept up to date but im not sold on that theory.

Remember that there is more to Sense than eye candy. For example, it has native ActiveSync baked into it because HTC licensed it from MS (that is a big reason it handles Exchange compatible email so fast). It is also a VERY smooth UI to use, and the most polished Android implementation (even including stock Android).

I have opined before that maybe Google should have contracted with HTC to do the UI development work on Android.

Touchwiz on the other hand is laggy and extremely derivative. In fact it is one of the things Samsung is in court with Apple over. If they were wise they would dump Touchwiz completely and just use stock - it would position them in a unique place in the market.

If Samsung made a Galaxy S phone with super amoled plus and vanilla Android I would never buy another brand of phone, ever.

I have had the Bolt since day 1 (March 17th, 2011) and I have no problems. I use it primarily as a work phone, so audio issues with the video camera is null and void for me. This phone does everything and anything I need it to do and does it very well. The battery issues some/most people are having have to do with apps running. I have no issues, but I installed words with friends and my battery would run out in 4 hours. Uninstalled and its back to 12-16 hours a day. HTC just does a better job all around on their phones and they just plain work with the android OS.
On the other hand, my wife has a Samsung Fascinate......need I say more. Samsung pumps out phones and forgets about them all together. Good luck with your updates from Samsung. You'll be wishing you stuck with the TBolt in the long run.

Well anyways the OP posted his opinion. Everyone is entitled to their opinions. I think we're all getting a little off track here. This thread isn't for flaming someone's thoughts and opinions. Its to get a general look at another person's thoughts. Simply that. If you want to debate which phone is better open a thread.

I'm sure the Charge is a great phone but just a personal opinion I chose the TB for the solidarity of the device. Plus the kickstand was a dealbreaker.

I went to check the charge and did not like it at all. The plastic material bothers me, the UI is laggy as hell (and I know you can change it). Just did not like it.

Did you try rebooting the phone? In store demos are played with by hundreds of people a day and sometimes go days without being rebooted so they can be slow.

I haven't personally noticed any more lag, on this then on my Thunderbolt.

I agree. Since I wrote this I did a master reset on my Charge and the lag is gone now. If you are getting screen response lag on either handset I suggest doing a master reset on the device.

I don't own either phone. I was upgrading my DX to an xperia play. Hardware point of view, that's a junk phone. So I decided to exchange for a 4G phone.

I spent a long while reading reviews before going to the vzw store to check them out. The Revolution sucks ass, im sorry. Be glad you don't own that phone. So that left the Charge and the Bolt.

After messing with both phones for a while, I come to realize there is no clear winner. Its a matter of preference Yo. Goto the Bolt forums, and you will find people happy with their Bolts. Goto the Charge forums, and you will find people happy with their DC.

The OP gave his OPINION. Don't trash talk him for that. I thank the OP for his fair and accurate review of both phones.

Uh, it may not have a super amoled plus, but it does have a super amoled, and it's called a nexus s. A phone that verizon will never get because they can't bloat and bing the thing up.

Also you guys say samsung sucks but when you look at you're own forums you see way more problem threads here than on the charge. Not to mention to the people who had a fascinate but didn't root and run a different rom, you lost out because for a while that would be the lightest, fastest, best camera, best screen, best gpu phone verizon before the thunderbolt came out. The fascinated still has a better gpu, and the phone is virtually unbrickable.

Given the different things I end up trying out on my devices, master resets happen relatively regularly. They tend to fix numerous problems quicker and easier than trying to figure out what app, or what I've done to negatively impact the device. LOL

People think they're more important than they are. Get over it. You don't need email .03 seconds after it's sent. Chill out.

You sound ditzy with this reply. Maybe you dont with your hotmail but some of us with corporate mail do.

This is what I never get about people with the HTC stigma over Samsung either. Ive owned plenty of HTC phones and for some reason folks like to act as if HTC hasnt and doesnt still have build quality issues. I mean I like their phones but im also realistic. Samsung needs to get better with the updates true enough, but simply put the Galaxy S2 will probably be the best phone offering out in the US this year. That depending on if the carriers here dont gimp it.

And not even just that, HTC's cameras still suck compared to Samsung, SAMOLED+ > qHD... it is what it is. If the SGS2 comes here without a locked bootloader im all over it. I have a friend that has the Infuse and the screen on that thing with the clarity is enough to make me switch in itself. Plus id use touchwiz about as I use sense, almost never. Sense is a nice UI but its a memory and battery hog. Dont believe me? Run an aosp rom without sense and see how much longer your battery lasts than it does now and how much more snappy your phone is.
