My HTC Hero is peeling.

The guys at Sprint told me to contact HTC and they can probably fix it. I'm gonna try this later today or tomorrow and see what they say.. The Sprint guy said to say that I just got the phone even though I got it the week it came out, so hopefully that works. Will post back about what they say.

I guess I don't really care my end call button is peeling. As long as it still works. I don't think it looks too bad.

Will someone please post a pic of a phone that has had the end and send buttons cleaned completely?!?!?! I am really curious to see how this looks.

Please post a pic of the phone in standby so the buttons arent lit up and another pic of the buttons lit up. I imagine this looks pretty cool and am thinking about scraping my clean even though they arent peeling.

Yeah so I called HTC, and they said that they can fix the issue under warranty (if you still have warranty), but they will charge you to send the phone to them. And if it's been modded or has illegal software on it, it will void your warranty.. Kinda sucks that I have to pay to send it to them.. Probably won't now. Guess I'll just wait until something actually happens to it and go to Sprint and get a new one since I have the extended Sprint Insurance Plan. Hopes this helps anyone.

Every button on the phone is peeling now. Looking at other phones, even HTC ones, I don't understand why they went with physical buttons. Touch sensitive buttons are so much nicer and cleaner.

Here's a pic I took after stripping the green and red buttons. Sorry for the quality -- the camera on the Pre doesn't focus well at close range. ;-)

My power button looks nasty so I took it to the store. They said they don't fix cosmetic issues but said a larger store might be able to do the repair. I then contacted HTC. They gave me an RMA so I'll be sending the phone back to be repaired. It shouldn't cost more the $10 via USPS to get it to them. woot

This issue has recently been communicated to corporate Sprint retail repair centers. Go in and show your nearest repair center and they should replace it for you. HTC has sent out units that fix this issue as it is a known one.

I took my Hero in to a repair center today to have the dust cleaned out from under the screen, and also mentioned how my power button had been peeling. They replaced the power button while they were taking care of the dust issue. The back button is also peeled off a little, but it wasn't nearly as bad as the power button. Anyway, now I have a new button. The screen also looks a LOT better. They didn't get 100% of the dust, but they got all of the annoyingly obvious particles.

Well, wouldn't you know it......my BACK button is starting to peel:mad:Too bad I rooted my phone or else I'd return it for another one. Guess I'll have to take heed to one of the previous suggestions.
