My M8 (and first Android device) arrives today!

My M8 and my first android device is arriving today(On the UPS truck now). Pretty much excited. Was going through your thread, since you are coming from iOS too, any suggestion, help, tips tricks if you can share, would be very helpful. How are you getting along with the new OS?

Overall I really like Android. It's not too difficult to learn your way around the OS. A few setting were in perplexing places for me. For example to change your SMS tone you do it inside the messaging app itself instead of settings>sound. One app I found that I use a lot is NiLS. It helps you to set up lock screen notifications to behave the way you like. I didn't like that the display didn't turn on to get a quick view of the notifications I received. Also, I didn't care for HTC's stock mail app so I downloaded Boxer. There's a widget called Power Toggles I believe. I had to get it so that I had easy access to a flashlight because at least in the U.S., there's not one preinstalled. I'd say I have enjoyed Android, but I believe I'm going back to iOS honestly. I really miss the integration with my other Apple products, and I don't use any Google Services (other than a gmail account I use for ecommerce sites. I still use my @me address for everything else. If I didn't already own so many other Apple products I would stick with Android in a heartbeat. I really do like it, and I plan on picking up a used M8 on eBay or craigslist. It's just too expensive to buy iPhones without subsidies. I can afford an unsubsidized M8. That way I can have the best of both worlds without breaking the bank. Let me know what you think of your M8.

I am still overwhelmed with the OS, its completely different ecosystem altogether. And yes I really miss a lot of stuffs on iOS and mostly the notifications and fingerprint unlock, having said that I heard everything(except the fingerprint obvio) is possible on Android. you just need to install the right App Thanks for the app suggestion, NiLS. I will install that then. Of my first few hours I really love the way HTC touch works. They really have done a good job in terms of touch sense, scrolling or launching app and of course Phone speakers are mind-blowing. I do use a lot of google services but I had invested on Apple app store as well. I guess I will loose those. I just wanted to try something different for at least some days to taste the difference. By the way, I got the flashlight inside Tools folder. Overall, first some hours with Android, despite some difficulties I have started liking the phone.

Glad you're enjoying it, and like I said I liked it as well. That's why I want to get a used/refurbished one somewhere. iPhones are just too expensive to buy off contract IMO. Those speakers are insane. I loved them! I'm gonna miss the minimal home screen as well. I completely understand wanting to try something different. That's why I got it. After trying it, Android is something I still want to explore more, but for me personally it's better to get acquainted with it off contract if that makes sense. It's something I want to play with and experiment with, but maybe not for my daily driver. Just out of curiosity, where are you located? I've read some that say the flashlight app came preinstalled and some that say it didn't. I think in the carrier branded US phones it wasn't there for some dumb reason.

Have you tried Floatify? I gave NiLs a shot but it didn't quite work the way I liked. So far I prefer Floatify notifications more.
