My Nexus 9 won't auto-sleep or auto-wakeup when I open and close the case

I bought a MoKo Slim Folding Cover Case for my Google Nexus 9. The tablet fit just fine inside the case. However when the tablet is on and I close the case (the magnets catch), it does not auto-sleep. If the tablet has gone to sleep by itself and I close and reopen the case, it does not wake up.

I searched though all the options I could find on the tablet, and could not find any setting that had to do with auto sleeping.

How does the tablet detect when the case is closed? Maybe something is obstructing that function?

Thanks!

I believe it is a magnetic sensor that is located in the device and would also need to be located in the cover too?

I'm not sure why it's not working... Are you sure the cover supports it/isn't faulty? EDIT: Perhaps the device is faulty. Have you tested it with any other magnetic cases?

The case flap does have magnets in it that catch. so that part isn't defective. Due to the sheer number of positive reviews, I find it highly unlikely that the case is defective, however, the magnets to feel a bit weak. This could be normal as this is my first tablet and I've never used one and closed the flap.

Unfortunately I don't have any other compatible cases to test it with. I also considered refrigerator magnets, but a) I don't have any, and b) I would be afraid they would be too strong and would not work or damage the tablet.

What exactly should happen when I close the flap? The screen should just turn off and put the tablet to sleep? The screen should turn off and lock the tablet? When I open the flap, the tablet should wake up? Will it be locked? I don't know, I am grasping at straws here.

Has anyone else used this brand of case with any success?

I am using the same case on my N9 and not having any issues with the auto sleep and wake when opening or closing. Sorry, I don't know what to suggest but am only replying because you asked if anyone else had the case.

I would hate to suggest a factory reset but that is what I would probably end up doing if all the settings look to be correct.

Chum

I have a different brand case and made this graphic for a different thread showing what activated the sleep/wake function. There is a metal bar in the cover that triggers it when it gets close to the screen between the camera and light sensor.

Thanks for the image. I'm stumped. Even after a factory reset it doesn't sleep. So either the case or the tablet itself is defective. Returning the case is almost not worth it being how inexpensive it was. It was 99 cents when I bought it, and it's frustrating not knowing if it is the tablet or the case. Maybe in a week or so a local retailer will sell a case for it that I can try before I buy.

Thanks for the help!

Was it on sale? If it's a 99 cent case, I wouldn't be so sure of its function.

As a matter of fact, it was on a $0.99 cent sale. I bought one immediately because it had a large number of good reviews.

I contacted the manufacturer to ask if they had any advice They were really polite and asked me to simply order another one, send them the order number, and they would refund me. I did so and they sent me a follow up email. The new one came yesterday. The first thing I noticed was that the magnets were significantly stronger. The Velcro tab that holds the tablet in the case was slightly larger too. Other than that the cases were identical. The tablet sleeps every time now when I close the case.

So. Case solved! (sorry)

I'm having the same problem, but I know that the case works because this is the second Nexus 9 that I'm getting it on. Trying a factory reset. My fingers are crossed.
