my phone will not charge. does it need a new battery

i cannot get my phone to charge. i have tried several different chargers and it still will not charge. how do you know when you need a new battery and how long do the batteries last.

It might not be the battery... it's also possible the phone's charging port is damaged. You say you've tried different chargers, but what about different cables?
