I mean, implying that my "wall of text" is a waste of your time because it just comes down to "I like Apple better" sure is ballsy when this entire thread that has somehow kept your attention for the last 2 days, and all your posts basically come down to "I like Android better".
My point was not "I like Apple better", I DO like Apple better. My purpose was really more to point out that in suggesting that they are somehow behind the times and make incremental changes, etc or do not keep up with the features of Android, you are missing a huge part of Apple's goal with their products. Also, the giant double standard that you seem to ignore in calling the 5 to 5s an incremental change whereas the s3 to s4 demonstrates some sort of revolutionary game changing innovation. And passing off, what are really some pretty major and FUNCTIONAL upgrades as "gimmicks" (I really consider a great camera, fingerprint scanner, and updated processor functional upgrades) in the context of the S4 is pretty funny. And when I say functional, I mean that people will likely actually use it. I never use my eyes to scroll on the S4, nor do I ever use the gestures (that don't work half the time) which are less convenient than simply navigating with your finger. Oh and I also wanted to point out a reason why "you can just root the phone" is not really an acceptable answer to the fragmentation.
Maybe you misunderstood my point. I am simply saying that for my friends at least, they don't really care about what OS their phone uses. They got the various Samsung phones primarily for the larger screen. They know it runs Android, don't care that it's touchwiz, and are happy with their phones because it does everything they need it to do. We are all cool people who have better things to do with our time than compare specs and ridicule others for supposedly using an "inferior" phone.
It was never about Google vs Apple, but about getting the phone which best suits your individual needs.
Specifically I mean why isn't that enough in these forums. It's obviously possible to be enthusiastic about technology and be civil among friends. So why doesn't that attitude translate into here?
People have a masked identity. I get people wouldn't say half the stuff they say to someone's face.

I don't think there's not much more they could have done with the iPhone 5S. Increasing the screen size is out of the question. They already increased it with the 5, and making another screen size change this early would have fragmented the software userbase and complicated things for developers, which is an Android pitfall they are trying to avoid. They upgraded the CPU, the camera, added the fingerprint scanner, iOS 7. Any major design changes they are definitely saving for the 6.
I think smartphone development, at least on the hardware side, is starting to mature, like PC's did in the mid 200's. I remember from the year 1995-2005, AMD and Intel CPU's clock speeds were doubling every year, and peripherals had major breakthroughs all the time.
Samsung hyped up the S4 so much like it was going to be this huge revolution. From the "Whats in the box?" teaser ads at the superbowl, to that huge bombastic event they held in times square with the broadway play and the full orchestra, just to reveal a phone that looked the same, but with the expected hardware updates. At least Apple had the good sense and taste to hold a small event in their own town hall venue.
I do think the iPhone 5C was a major misstep. It's still not cheap enough for Chinas market and other emerging markets. And it's only going to devalue the brand, and possibly lower resale value. There was nothing wrong with selling previous gen models for a discount, and that helped them to sell off surplus inventory. Steve Jobs would be spinning in his grave if he heard Jony Ive say "It's unapologetically plastic". Jobs was focused on making a good product. Tim Cook is focused on market share, and catering to the whims of shareholders.

Other then Play services what other choices? And what's wrong about the App store? It has all the apps you would want. Plus you've got WiFi syncing so again whats the problem?

Its only limited to one carrier, but still its unlocked and pretty cheap. Would have preferred purchasing the Nexus 4 from NZ but bought it from the US because here it is 800NZ 16 GB and the old 299 price tag of the Nexus 4 was a far more attractive option. But yes I do understand the point you are trying to make

The problem he is referring to is having to use iTunes to put songs on iphone as where if i wanted to share a mp3 with him off my PC we could just plug his phone in and windows explorer to the files and drag and drop that simple no third party stuff required that's what he's was getting at

To be honest, I don't really care about that bit more power to you I suppose. I like the fact Google music automatically uploads songs I purchase from iTunes so again I have no need for drag N drop.

that would be a problem if the stock was like already under $100, but it's just under $500. It would also be easy to ridicule Samsung for example if they actually provided real sales, profits, and stock prices at any given time - problem is when they say they sold million or so in the a month or so - there's absolutely no way to confirm if it's true. But I've been trading since 2006, I've seen apple drop from piak $201 to $70 just to hit $700 mark a couple years later - every stock volatility increases and usually drops a little after a major announcement "buy on rumors, sell on execution". Apple isnt going anywhere...
Oh yes, Apple's goals. You mean the one size fits all idea and screw you if you want anything else goal? And they are behind the times because of that very reason. They keep releasing very little we haven't already seen for at least a month. It comes down to a lot of reasons why they're behind, but I'll list a few: They only release one or two phones a year, they're almost never the first ones to come out with new technology anymore, and ios even with the new update to iOS 7 still lacks tons of features. And the gestures work for me, so I don't know if you did something wrong or you got a bad unit.
The update from the s3 to the s4 was much more of an update than the one from the to 5s. Apple kept the same screen size and ppi just to further prove my point, it's a joke. With the s4 we received an amazing screen, processing power which is insanely good, a much better camera with more megapixels, and a much more refined experience with touchwiz (oh and the handful of new features we haven't seen before). I'll say some of the features of the s4 are gimmicky, but not all. There's some I do use and like. And the fingerprint scanner is gimmicky, there's pretty much no reason to have that on a phone and a good amount of people won't use it.
Rooting the phone is an acceptable answer, and so many people realize that. There are hundreds of thousands of people running cyanogenmod on the s3, and that's only one rom. It isn't a huge number compared to the billion activations, but it's certainly large and getting bigger.
The Play store has that too, and you can remotely download apps. Can you do that with iOS? No.
