My Rant on the iPhone 5s

Marques Brownlee had a good point today. Steve would likely have fired a lot of people before letting today's products go to market. I'm not going to say the 5s is a bad phone (I haven't used it), and presumably it's better than the iP5 which many people think is a very solid device. I'd give it at least that much of a benefit of the doubt. My comment about the S3 to S4 update is that much more is taking place on the consumer facing side of annual upgrades in Android flagships than in recent Apple flagships. If we accept that processor, battery and camera updates are a given, they're just going to happen, it's easier to contrast the philosophies. Apple is hopefully still going to get seriously caught up in execution and polish rather than innovation, and that's okay because it plays to their strengths.

You are aware that he approved the 5S for production, aren't you?

It's certainly unique, I'm just wondering if it will have any practical use down the line. Right now I think it's crazy to put something like that in a cord (and seeing I have a spare lighting cord I might pull it apart to confirm this), but it is really cool. And good luck with the purchase! I wouldn't do it being a hardcore android fan, but either way enjoy the 5s!

Lightning cables have a built in chip because the cable can be put in the port in two different orientations. There is no top or bottom, the chip will dynamically adjust which pins go to which connector on the cable. The fact that there is no top or bottom on the cable is one of the improvements over microUSB.

Actually, the cpu is not in the cable, but in their AV digital addapter. Acts like mini Apple TV as much as I understand doing pretty much wired airplay so to speak.

There's also an ultra low power chip in the cable.

If you call a bigger more powerful screen with a higher ppi, increased processing power that trumps the iPhone, a complete overhaul of touchwiz, and a slew of new features a small upgrade, I hope you're joking.

Screen can't be more powerful lol. Also screen size is subjective. The processing power, really? You are really gonna pull that? When the S4 has a quad core processor with a much higher clock speed and much more room? IOS 7 was a complete overhaul of so that point is redundant. IOS 7 also has a slew of new features. So I guess neither the S4 or iPhone 5S were small upgrades over there predecessors:)

You do realise that Steve jobs set the road map for 4 years and therefore he did in fact approve it. Please stop talking about a dead man you knew nothing about.

They are both significant upgrades from their predecessors in their own ways. The S4 made some nice hardware improvements, while the 5S (most likely) took back the performance crown. I say that because that's historically what's happened with the new iPhone.

Whether or not iOS7 is a significant enough upgrade to stop the bleeding, though, is only something time will tell. There's no denying that people are opening up to larger screened devices, and Apple just isn't servicing that crowd right now.

Both platforms are good enough, it all comes down to preference, really.

I used to own many iPhones, I switched because it has become a lackluster product. It's not surprising, its nothing special, it's nothing that compares to other superior options. Apple is playing catch up and Samsung knocks them a mile backwards with every release. HTC and Motorola do as well. I have no respect for Apple without Steve, he was the only thing keeping that company on track.

No they are not. That is your opinion and ONLY your opinion. Samsung hasn't done anything to touch Apple.

Is this common knowledge? I never heard that. Not saying it's not true, but a reputable link would help when you say something like that.

Also, roadmaps can change. It happens all the time.

LOL you can't be serious right? Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha I laughed so hard I had to leave the room. And that's your opinion as well if we're going to analyze everything.

If I was going to continue writing, I would have definitely wrote about the NFC issue. It's something that the iPhones should have. Like I said, I'm not trying to write a book on this website. Also, it wouldn't be that hard to get a fingerprint if they wanted it. The screen is covered in fingerprints.

NFC is useless It has been on 2 android devices I have owned and both were disabled by AT&T. and where I live. nearly ZERO places even accept it. NFC is over hyped junk in its current state.

The fingerprint scanner is very different than anything out there. You can't fool it unless you have the persons actual finger.

Actually, I read an article analyzing the scanner. It can be cracked just as easy as any other one. Sorry, there's no special exception for Apple. I would link it for you, but I'm on my phone. I might edit this later and add it in.

You cannot fool a sub dermal fingerprint scanner using anything other than the persons finger. I'm sorry you have been misinformed about it.

Nah it isn't. I use it a lot for tech tiles and things. Not to mention sending things to other Android phones my friends have. It's useful, if you use it properly.

I doubt it, iPad mostly stays home, while iPhone is with you all the time, everywhere, hence more security is important.

My iPad is usually with me most of the time. I have pass code disabled in both my iOS devices for this very reason - it gets annoying after a while, especially when my user habit involves using it multiple times in short bursts, and because it interferes with Siri.

Anyone know if I am able to authenticate and use Siri at the same time from the lock screen?

Its fairly common knowledge. I believe it was in his biography. There are still products that he approved that haven't been seen yet. The 5S, and perhaps the next iPhone, were personally approved by him.

Pretty sure it can be fooled like the rest. Ooh a link! Here you go: http://www.inquisitr.com/943528/iphone-fingerprint-scanner-hacking-nfc-apple-iphone-5s-release-date/
May I also point this out from the article? "Wired magazine points out that iPhone fingerprint scanner hacking could be pulled off with the same methods used to fool all other biometrics systems"

It is common to Apple followers such as me. Its been stated multiple times a couple of times in the Steve Jobs biography as well.
