myTouch wifi connectivity problems

I'm asking this for my parents, who have myTouch 4gs. They bought them at Christmas and have had wifi problems since. They have a Tmobile branded router. Their computer and their laptops are working fine, so the wifi is in place. However, Mom's phone in particular is having huge issues. We cannot maintain a phone call at all, especially if she moves. Her reception is best outside her house. The worst (nonexistent) is when she is at the computer desk...where the router is. Their phones won't even ring there.

They tell me they're using their Tmobile wifi calling apps. I never have any problem with the wifi on my Vibrant at their house, but I don't know that I've tried making phone calls from it.

Mom is seriously frustrated. She says even if she has full bars on her wifi signal indicator, unless she has at least 2 bars on her tower signal indicator she is unable to make or receive calls.

Can anyone offer any advice on how I can further help her troubleshoot this?

I had the same issue with my first myTouch 4g. The problem was the phone's radio module. It couldn't hold the signal. I went to the store and got it exchanged with a new phone. Not a problem since. You're saying they have them since December, so unless they have the premium insurance, I don't think they can get a refund.

I had a similiar problem with my MT4G sitting in my office next to my router. Apparently the MT4G will use the network for calls (weak signal & all) regardless of the fact that wi-fi calling is enabled. It hands off the data traffic to wi-fi but not calls unless there is no (zero) signal. The fix for me was to go into phone settings>call>Use Internet Calling and set it to "For all calls". The catch is to remember to change it back to "Only for internet calls" before returning to a network coverage area.

Make sure you use the wi-fi calling enabler icon, not just the wi-fi in internet/wi-fi choice under settings. The icon may need to be brought to the desk-top. Sorry if this does'nt help.
(you should see the blue/white bubble indicator on the notification bar)
