Nandroid Backup

Okay...here's my problem. For one, I new to the whole rooting thing w/ Android devices. Yesterday, I rooted my wife's Hero and for some reason I'm unable to perform a backup. I've tried two separate methods but keep getting the same error after it completes the 'backup'. I wish I had a screenshot, but the error is something to the effect of "no sd-ext" or something like that.

I rooted her phone via the one-click method @ One click Root APK for CDMA Hero - xda-developers

I had already downloaded ROM Manager and then flashed the ClockWorkMod recovery. I then proceeded, within the ROM manager app, to backup my phone only to get that darn error message at the very end. I DO NOT want to proceed with flashing a new ROM until I know things are backed up.

Can anyone offer this noob some help?

Thanks in advance!

Have you tried reboot into recovery manually.Power off phone then hold home while hitting power, don't release home till recovery pops up.Then try making a nadroid backup it doesn't have to be a nadroid+ext. Also make sure then is a couple hundred mb free on the sdcard.Nadroids can take a lot of room.

Beezy,

I have tried that route too. It's like it's not recognizing my SD card. I think she has ample space still on her card. Any other thoughts?

Thanks!

Im trying to think of what this could be and it's just not hitting me. Have you tried switching to a different recovery or tried doing the back up with a different sdcard in to see?

Is this the error you get? -> Error: run 'nandroid-mobile.sh restore' via console!

Whether it is or isn't, I would suggest backing up the sd card on the computer then re-format it. Nandroid after you format the card and see what happens.

That is not the error message I get. I just reformatted my SD card and I'm now running a Nandroid backup. I'm going to post pics of the error if it comes up again.

Im sorry this should of hit me earlier. The no sd-ext is fine it just means there was no sd ext found to back up.Which is normal because unless you partition the sdcard with ext2,3,4 it won't need to back anything up.Everything looks good to me.

Whew *wipes brow*! Thanks Beezy for the encouraging response. I thought I was getting nowhere with this rooting thingy. Now, I just need to learn how to flash a custom ROM and find a good one to use for the wife.;)

Flashing a ROM is easy. Download the. Zip file and place it in the root of the sd card. Enter the recovery and Nandroid just in case. You will need to wipe the phone and dalvik-cache, both are selectable from the recovery menu. Select flash zip and choose the file.

That's it. Hope your wife enjoys the phone. :)

Well, my 1st attempt was a failure! I flashed the aospMod v. 0.9.7 and while it looked pretty cool, everything was missing. No contacts, emails were gone, etc. I think I missed a HUGE step. Now she is giving me the evil eye.

You need to flash the GAPPS on top of it. Here is the link from the aospMOD forum page: HERE. That is all the apps from google that are not open source, such as gmail, the market etc.
