Navigation App missing after Google Maps Update

I have a nexus 4 and I am OK with the latest version of Google Maps Navigation. However, I have to turn my radio off in order to try to listen to the voice, it is so quiet. The pre-update version was alright, but I don't want to avoid updates as I would prefer the latest at all times. Does anyone know how to turn up thr volume in the latest version? I have checked the sound/volume settings and all three are at full volume. I have also tried muting the voice and demuting it, but still no success. Can anybody help?

Eddie.

I was really pissed that the factory navigation app was missing, after an unauthorized update of Google Maps. Who is in control of this phone anyway. Thanks for the post on how to restore (settings, apps, maps, uninstall last update). Now things are back to normal. I hate google maps for Android. No place to turn on voice to tell me directions, and no directions list. Thanks again!!!!!!!!!! :)
Sandy
Are you sure you're using an Android phone? Google Maps has turn by turn voice directions as well as a directions list. Possibly you need to find the power button?

You need to understand. If what I want isn't immediately intuitive then it's too hard! I don't want to have to actually LEARN!

If you dont want to have to learn and expand your brain then go with iphone where apple micro manages it all for you not to hard if your too stubborn

I didn't realize until; now that is was something that Google did that caused me to lose my blue navigator pal! It was great and having it tlak the directions was awesome. How do I get it back since it has been at least 2 months since it last appeared. Appreciate the help.

Really? The answer has been given at least 50 times in this thread. Go into the Application manager and uninstall updates for the Maps app. (51!)

If you have the play store set to automatically update, you'll want to turn that off, or it will just give you the new version again.

I don't mean to be overly harsh, but I recall someone saying:
"...if folks would just take a few minutes to either a) explore the new Maps or b) read a few posts in this thread, the signal-to-noise ratio in this discussion would be vastly improved.

Today's smartphone is a true miracle of modern technology. Approach it as such and take a few minutes to try to figure things out on your own. If you take into account all of a smartphone's capabilities, the learning curve of these things is really not that steep. "

This is a big glass house. Nuff said?
Either we divide this forum between novice and advanced, or show tolerance.

Thank you.

No one is an expert at everything so I have no problem with the level of experience of someone but there's an ocean of difference between a novice willing to put in a little effort to read and learn versus someone too lazy to be bothered. Nuff said?

Oh, and if you had bothered to read further, it turns out the only mistake I made was thinking I was mistaken. The missing feature that I actually did spend time searching for before posting was silently removed somewhere along the upgrade path. Details here...

To me, the way traffic is displayed, or I should say, not displayed, is the major missing piece to this update. While driving, you cannot tell where the traffic lies ahead as you could with the old version, which was remarkably accurate.

HI ALL I've had the same problem obviously, whoever owns a TAB 2 will experience this issue with the update, it's inevitable.... The information has been given that if you are to uninstall the Google map updates that the navigation app will return. My only concern is that if the Google maps app is not updated then we are not up to date with the most recent map information. Does anybody agree? Or know what I mean? Lol....

My understanding is that there is only one Map, it is updated online and changes are reflected on your device.

Please correct me if I'm wrong :)

Map data and the map app are two different things. Map data isn't stored on your phone. It is downloaded to your device in real time, as you move around. Unless Google changes the map data format at some point, you always get the most current map they have. Devices prior to Android 4.0 can't even run the latest map update, but they still get the latest maps.

Anybody experiencing this problem
I recently purchased the Moto X for Verizon, and love it so far. I am however having this weird issue where the Navigation app (google navigation/maps) will not play the audio directions through my bluetooth stereo in my car. Instead, it plays this audio through the phone's speakers. This is odd because music (from any source.. google play, youtube, rhapsody etc), notifications, and podcasts all play through the bluetooth stereo. It is not a lack of capability of the stereo, as I used the same stereo to play navigation from my old Htc Evo, and briefly from an Htc One. Interestingly enough, it WILL play the navigation through the stereo so long as it is also playing audio from another source, so if i'm listening to a podcast it will pause it, play the navigation audio and then resume the podcast.

So far i've tried unpairing and repairing the devices, unchecking and rechecking media under bluetooth settings, disabling and enabling assist, and ensuring that the volume for navigation is up all the way.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

did you also find since the upgrade that the sound volume when it's giving directions now very low - I can hardly hear it anymore?

I'm running Maps v7.2.0 and have not noticed any strange behavior WRT the audio volume. While the voice is speaking you've used the Volume rockers to set it to maximum? Are you using a bluetooth headset or playing the audio through your car?
