As the title implies, I've preordered a Note 3 and will be shipping my iPhone off to gazelle. I don't currently own any android devices, so I'm trying to brainstorm what I need. My cables all have to be replaced - is it microUSB? I can keep my wall chargers to use, and my car has USB ports. I was thinking I'd get a simple iblason (?) case from amazon - should I get screen protectors too, and if so will matte ones work?

I'm really excited - I check my order status 3x / day. Att still hasn't shipped it, darn the luck! This will be the first time I've ever gotten a new gadget when it was released - both of my iPhones were "s" models, and had been out a few months by the time I got them. Totally excited!

I'm with you on being excited about this phone! I too am coming from an iPhone 4 and this will also be my first day-one purchase (or at least within a week).

You may have already seen this around the board but several folks are recommending against a screen protector. They say it will dull the HD qualities that come with having that screen, and to me it makes sense. Frankly I was all about getting a "privacy" screen protector but after thinking about it I'm going to bare screen.

i use my otg usb cable all of the time to transfer stuff from the flash drive i have that stores and transfers files. pics, movies, etc that i don't want to keep on the phone or sdcard

sd card.....i keep books, music, movies, pics, etc on the sd card and not the phone memory, just to keep the phone clean and organized.

i think the s view case is going to be necessary for me :) looks too awesome and will protect the screen without a nasty screen protector.....just say no to screen protectors!

it comes with the 3.0 cable combo for charging etc.....since your car has a usb port i would suggest just a regular micro usb cord for charging in the car since they are cheap

have fun with the new toy....i'm betting you will be blown away by the personalization possible and screen size!!

Really, all you need is an extra USB cable for your car (it'll come with a wall charger and USB cable for home).

Maybe an extra battery, but that's a big maybe because I never needed one with my Note 2 and it charged quickly whenever needed.

If you're picky about resale value (ie a person who wants the 'new' thing without shelling out hundreds of dollars out of pocket because you've used an upgrade), then use an actual case. By this I mean, not the flip covers or anything that replaces a part of your phone like the battery cover. Those aren't true cases and won't protect in a fall. Case-Mate makes a slim yet protective Pop case that has a hard exterior shell and inner silicone lining to provide optimum protection without adding bulk and weight. They don't have one for the Note 3 up on their site, but I emailed them an inquiry and was told they're working on getting them out in time for the Note 3.

As for screen protector--if you have a good enough case, you won't need one (I didn't need one with a CM Pop case on my Note 2 because the silicone forms a raised lip around the face that protects it in face-down falls). I've read they also interfere with S Pen use. I had a Moshi AG screen protector on my Note 2 and it bugged me because it looked like they didn't even bother with making it fit the phone correctly, so if you're shopping around and run across that, you might want to avoid them.

Once I switched to larger phones (i.e. HTC One) I decided that the extra bulk required I ditch some bulk. So I've become a big fan of cases with built in wallet like slots. I plan on doing the same here. I haven't carried a wallet for months now and life is great - just my phone with license, credit card, and debit card. I lose my wallet a ton less (hah) and it rings when I do lose it. I went through all the junk I had in my wallet and found I could electronically achieve the same thing with all the cards (i.e. grocery store rewards card, REI card, petco card can all be rang up at register via phone #).

At first I got a little grief, but I poke fun at myself and call it my man purse. I imagine I'm going to get a little grief with this Note 3 "computer" I'm holding up to my ear, but on both accounts I don't really care. I travel a ton and not carrying my wallet is awesome. Having an immediately accessible device where I can write things down, pull data, watch movies is also great with the Note.

Anyway, a bit of a ramble but just something to consider. Perhaps the extra bulk of the Note can be offset by dropping a wallet or at least your bulk in it...YMMV.
