Need a better sms app

You can copy the text you want by using circle to search feature. It is independent of apps and works everywhere. Just hold on your home. Google messages are too good for me with RCS.
Well said. I never thought of that.

I only know of one option for changing colors in Google Messages, but I'm far from an expert on GM.

This setting only works for RCS messaging & that limits the broad usage of the feature. I only have a few RCS users, the majority being SMS/MMS.

Tough crowd. I guess your needs are more complex than mine. I can change colors, pinch to zoom. The copy and paste won't meet your expectations. I know many apps are a compromise... I hope you find something that works.
🍻
My needs (or more accurately, my desires) aren't complex at all. If they were, 3rd party messaging apps like Textra, Chomp, Handsent, Pulse and others would have a hard time fulfilling them. The ability to Customize the user experience to meet the users needs/desires was once touted as the reason we should choose Android over iPhone. Has that changed?

If you are happy with clumsy and/or limiting workarounds and compromises to increase the size of fonts, adjust colours, copy and paste, etc., in your Google Messages, that's great, but I expect more from Google and their apps. In my humble opinion, the Android creator, gatekeeper and holder of the keys to the kingdom's vast riches should do at least as well as 3rd party developers in providing users the ability to adapt their experiences to meet their individual needs/desires.

Are you unable to change the font size in general, or do you only need larger font for SMS?

If I increase font size for everything, it is also visible for Google Messages.

I am able to change general font sizes on my phone and I have them set to where they work well for me in most instances. That being said, I find Google Messages font size to be a little small for my eyes when texting and I would prefer that the user be able to change font size (and other things) from within the Google Messages app just like users are able to do with Textra and other 3rd party messaging apps. I know that that is not an option at this point in time, but would hope that Google would make the ability to customize such an important app to so many users a priority in future development.

I was using Verizon messages + which i really liked but they are discontinuing it and pushing the Google messages. I've been using Google messages now for a couple of weeks and I don't like it. Not nearly as good as messages +. Anyone got a recommendation of a really good texting app that's intuitive and easy to use? Thank you!!
My apologies to you, @ansa82. It appears my comments may have devolved the conversation around your question and I feel like I may have inadvertently hijacked your post merely looking for recommendations.

If you don't like Google Messages, I would suggest that you try a few of the 3rd party apps mentioned elsewhere in this thread to see which one would work best for you.

Best of luck in your search. 😊

I guess that explains it, because the color change option isn't available to me. Do the Google engineers even understand how to properly code? (No need to answer that, it's rhetorical question and a pretty obvious answer.)

I know Google messages isn't highly customizable but it's spam protection, RCS with Android/iPhone users is very hard to beat , back up is natively done and gets updates with newer features frequently.
It just works in my opinion.

I forgot all about Beeper
Have you used it?
Yes I use both. Beeper works better on the tablet, Google messages is pretty buggy on the tablet. I also like the fact that beeper will sort your pinned contacts on top 3 rows 3 wide with their contact pictures like the iPhone does. I've emailed Google messages a few times asking for this, but they never update it.

Thanks for the info!

The pinning feature looks interesting. Who knows, maybe Google will add something like it down the line. 🤞

I previously used Textra, which I liked, but switched to Samsung (because of the watch) then to Google.

As to RCS, it is my understanding that RCS allows us Android folk to receive decent pictures now from the Iphone crowd (ie. my whole family). Correct?

Ansa82, thanks for starting this thread. I was not aware of some of the Google features such as scheduled send and RCS only.
