New App for Facebook Hi-Res Photo syncing - "Haxsync"

For those havng issues, 2 things need to be done. I found this out after being annoyed for about 20 mins. Now I'm happy

1) If your contact's name and FB profile dont match, link them (Go to people, click the contact then menu<edit<menu<join). If your friend is John Smith on FB and your phone says Jack Hoff, this will make the John Smith photo sync under Jack Hoff on your phone.

2) Next do System Settings<Accounts Sync<HexSync<Sync Prefs<Additional Friends to sync. Here you click the same FB profile name you linked in step 1. Then hit SyncNow. It's stupid you have to link it twice but it will work.

Keep in mind this will only ensure your Photos are sync'd. It wont work if your friends have high privacy settings but for me that was only like 2 people. Good luck!

Is there a reason certain friends do not show under the list when I go to "Additional friends to sync"? I've got "Dad" in my phone, but he does not display in the Friend Picker list to sync over and then join together.

Bout to buy this, but have a quick question...

If I have pics for contacts I manually set that I dno't want to change via sync with FB can that be done with the program?

If I sync w/ Friendcaster it always writes over any pics I manually set.

SimonTuffGuy: Some people have their profiles restricted so that 3rd-Party-Apps (like HaxSync) can't access them. Seems like your father is one of those people :)

radgatt: The app had battery issues pre-1.5, but I haven't heard any complaints with current versions.

How can i get back into my phone contacts list a friend from facebook that I previously removed (hidden) from it?

To explain: My situation is this, the first time I used haxsync, I synced all the contacts, then I manually linked all my phonebook contacts with the ones that haxsync added from facebook. After that I deleted the contacts I got from haxsync that I didn't have in the phone contacts list (basically my facebook friends of which I don't have the phone numbers).
Now, I have an old friend that I just recently got her phone number, but we were friends before on facebook, so I deleted her in the first step as described above. Now, how can I get haxsync to sync this contact again? I tried syncing all contacts and I tried adding her to the additinal friends to sync list in preferences, but nothing really seems to work as she was removed from the contacts list once.

I also must mention that when I originaly removed the non-phone-number contacts from my phone, a message appeared saying that I cannot delete contacts from read-only accounts and that I can only hide them. So basically those contacts are just hidden but I cannot find a way to show them again.

Thanks for any help

surrounded, try removing the HaxSync-Account and readding it. You don't need to manually delete contacts anymore, "Sync existing contacts only" has been a feature for quite a few versions now :) Just be sure to check it before the initial sync, as HS won't delete already synced contacts.

Version 1.6.5 should be out on the Market soon. It removes the dependency on the official FB-app ("View Profile" falls back to Tinfoil/mobile site) and adds Address syncing (City-level only)

newest update wont save sync settings... IE. turn off crop and center (never works for me anyway and makes pics ed.) and sync only over wifi... AND it lost all my joined contacts... So friggin annoying... please tell me what i need to do to make this work.. i've removed the account 4 times and tried to sync with settings saved.. and i go back in a few minutes later and see that it cropped all the damn pictures..

MrGixxer6, that sounds like a problem with your rom. Have you tried uninstalling (not only removing the HaxSync account, but fully uninstalling the app) and reinstalling?

First off, this is one hell of a contacts sync app! I've loaded a beta ICS ROM onto my EVO and the facebook app wouldn't play nice and sync with my contacts. I read about this app in XDA and I will say it's well worth the 99 cents! :D

Here is my question to you: I see that the newest version released yesterday V 1.6.5 removed the dependency of the official facebook app. Does that mean I can now go into account settings and uncheck the official app from syncing contacts? In other words, it's redundant to have HaxSync and facebook sync with contacts, correct?

There must be an option to buy this app from the countries which can not reach paid apps on Market (for ex. Turkey). I would love to use this on my G-Nex, but only because I live in Turkey, there's no option to buy it :(

There could be a free version with in-app payment for all features.

vudin, I've sent you a PM.

Enraged Medic, well, the FB-App syncs some things HaxSync just can't sync as FB doesn't allow 3rd Party Apps to sync them (e.g. phone numbers/email addresses.) If you need those, I'd recommend you leave both running in parallel.

By the way, the next version will bring a few big changes, one of which is detailed here. :)

HaxSync is a great sync app. However, not all of my contacts sync up with Facebook (mainly to get the high res images and posts updated). I can't see that these contacts that are not syncing are stored any different to my others that are... I have even tried setting the 'Fuzziness' preference to Very strong but no joy...

@d4lloyd: Is it possible that those contacts disabled access by 3rd-party apps in their privacy-settings?

HaxSync 2.0 was just uploaded to the market and I think it's the biggest and best update yet. Here's the short version of the changelog, for the fancy version with lots of pictures click here.

Merges contacts itself instead of relying on People-App => No more duplicate contacts!
Reads <HTCData> fields and uses them when merging contacts.
Syncs Events you're attending to calendar.
Syncs Birthdays to calendar.
Uses new Social APIs for touchable status updates with comment/like count and thumbnails (4.0.3+ only)
Syncs data to "Me" Card.
Added German, Croatian and Hungarian translations.
Completely reworked settings interface.

thanks for the update!
i have sent you a request to your email
just a paste here :)

Here in greece we use to write in greeklish.these means greek characters converted to english.
so lets say the name ?Γιαννης? is ?Giannis? .
so your application has a trouble assigning the phone contacts with the facebook contacts so to sync high quality pictures.

do you thing you could add some better logic of assigning names?
i could help and give you all the 24 assigments of greek letters to english?

thanks again for the great app :)

I sent an email but maybe you'll find it easier here, I don't know.

Either way, is there a way to disable contact birthday sync? It really clutters up my calendar and there's no need for me to see everyone's birthday. It also shows the bday of EVERYONE I'm Facebook friends with which I really don't care about. I disabled calendar sync as well as searched in the people sync settings to look for an option and neither worked. I'd really appreciate it if there was a way to disable the birthday sync, as it's very inconvenient to see everyone's birthdays in my calendar all the time. Otherwise, I really dig the app and think it works perfectly.

Edit: Mathias emailed me back and I found out how to solve the problem in case anyone else runs into it. In case anyone else has the question, I had to go to the "Calendars to sync" button and then check HaxSync birthdays, and then go back to the "display" tab and uncheck it there. For some reason it doesn't show up unless you choose to sync it then unsync it.

I noticed if I have contacts on the phone not merged (names for skype vs phonebook entries) it won't update those user's images to a higher res and their most recent photo.

tony bag o donuts: I think that's just a coincidence, but there is indeed a case where the pictures are lower-res and not updated correctly:
If the contact doesn't allow 3rd-Party-Apps access to his/her galleries (in his/her privacy settings), HaxSync can't access the high-res version of the image and the corresponding timestamp.
In those cases, it'll fall back to the lower-res image available without gallery access. Unfortunately, this doesn't provide a valid timestamp, so HaxSync doesn't know when to update the contact image.

karfam: I'll see what I can do, but to be totally honest I have quite a few higher-priority features in mind right now.

Thanks for the app motsrox! It works great, however I have noticed that ONE of my facebook friends is not being synced, not even with a low res photo. When I select "Additional friends to sync" and it gets a list of my facebook friends, the list is complete except for this one person. Is this the same problem that you suspect d4lloyd and tony bag o donuts have, or something different?
