New CES Phones

I love the DROIDX after moving over from the Blackberry 9650. This phone just works. I really want my next phone to be 4g, but I think it is prudent to wait for this technology to develop a bit on Verizon.

I don't have time to camp out in front of the computer watching all these new Android releases, and its all a little overwhelming. I saw the Altrix and Bionic summary on the front page and the first thing I thought was that these actually seem similar to the DX. Increase in screen size now seems to be the norm; I remember when people questioned if the DX's was too big. Other than 4G (which is not available in my market and won't be for some time) and dual core processor (advantage still TBD) I'm not seeing anything that blows me away; am I missing something?

It is great to see ATT getting some decent Android options so my wife can get off her iPOS and onto an Android.

I do not think we (X owners) are "missing" out on anything. It is just fun to see the influx of new phones and new improvements. Like others have said I too will wait and let the dust settle, I am in no hurry to jump ship.

The phones are cool and all, but I'm not interested in jumping ship - I love my X. It's the first device I've ever owned that I don't have any issues with. The XOOM, though? That's is something else entirely. If they drop a wifi-only version, I'm on it. I'll wait until my upgrade date arrives on the X, as I'm in no hurry to move on.

Won't be going to the Bionic for a couple reasons.

1. Not too sure about LTE coverage yet. I'll let it work itself out for a little while before I upgrade.
2. Extra cost for 4G coverage.
3. Not that big of an upgrade from the X, from what I can see. Cool, a dual core processor. My X is plenty fast, thank you very much. Let me know when they hold true to the 1gb RAM promise.
4. Soft keys on the bottom. Can't stand it. I have a feeling I'm just going to have to get used to it though...

Between rooting, overclocking, and custom ROMs, the X surpasses my needs and expectations for the time being. Not worried about a new phone at all.

They just announced a new 4.3" SuperAMOLED pure glass display phone 4G.......4.3 :( how come AT&T get 4.5

Cory, I haven't seen this addressed anywhere but can you confirm that the Infuse 4G has no microSD card slot? I assume it's basically build from similar innards as the Nexus S. If so, that's a disturbing trend for new Android devices (or at the very least, new Samsung Android devices).

Also, regarding the Xoom's combo microSD/SIM slot: by "combo" do you mean that the SD card connectors aren't there unless the LTE modem is installed? Or can you have either a microSD card OR a SIM card installed at once but not BOTH simultaneously? That seems to be the only potential shortcoming on that device. I can live without 4G at launch as I would use this thing 95% of the time on wi-fi if I had one.

Thanks!

4.5 might be pushing it. And I'm content with a real network. ;)

lol our network's data speeds are much slower than both Att and Tmo. And we can't even do simultaneous voice and data, not to mention no SIM card swapping for phones.

I love my Verizon service but GSM is just way better than CDMA. CDMA beats them in coverage but i envy those with good GSM service.

Getting back to phones, I'm sticking with my X until we get something with stock Android released. All these blur, sense, and touchwiz phones will be outdated in 6 months due to their skins. Come on Google!! Bring the nexus to Verizon. I don't wanna buy a phone that will be stuck on Gingerbread until almost 2012.

I find the 4g phones to be pretty wild but like many of you I am just not eager to scrap my X just yet. It has plenty of life and is one update away from being perfect.

IMO the DX will be enough all around phone through the end of 2011. Now in 2012 that will be a totally different story

Verizon's data is suffcient and at least calls dont drop every couple mins, and voices arent muffled. i cant talk to anyone on AT&T without hanging up and just texting them.

non-issue with LTE. Swap between AT&T and VZW simply by swapping the sim.

Does the Atrix dock allow you to connect USB devices to it? The only times I use my home desktop PC these days is if I need to print something, burn a CD/DVD, copy pictures from my DSLR, or download something big.

yes, the dock (not the webtop) will have 3 usb ports and an hdmi port (probably all will be mini or micro).

I had a chance to view the Infuse 4G up close. 1) I think it's too freaking big. 2) The screen is gorgeous, but I didn't get to hold it in my hands and inspect it as close as I would like to have. Tomorrow, when we get some hands on time with the Infuse, I will be able to do some side by side comparisons to see if there really is a difference in the screen technology. I can tell you one thing - I will never carry a phone around that big. 4" is my favorite screen size.

I have to agree, the DX and Evo are just too big fo my hand. It actually hurts trying to stretch my thumb across the screen. If I'm gonna have to 2-hand a device, it may as well be a 7" tab.

Hmm just searched in market (probably should have done that first) and calwidget looks very close and is free thanks though for the quick response!
