New EVO Battery Life Sticky: Please Contribute

It doesn't take a mathematics genius to figure out that the 1750mAh battery doesn't have much more juice than the stock 1500mAh one. After all, it's only 17% more powerful. A 3500mAh one, however, will last much longer because it has 133% more power than the 1500mAh one.
Mine last for a long time(1750mAh)... however, the the larger mAh will definitely goes further.
I prefer a more flat shape phone, rather than a bulky looking one.

Funny as this may sound, I bought the 1750 battery and it is actually worse than the stock. I bought a separate wall charger with the hero battery and it works so much better that charging the phone itself. I get 10-12 hrs vs the 6hrs previously-Of course this will vary with your usage but I stream music alot at work and listen to podcasts.

Just has you said - individual results will vary. I have no problem with mine.

I don't use facebook very much, but I do use it, so I keep it "syncing never", this way I can check it easily, but its not wasting my battery.

If you have an EVO buy the 3500 mAh extended battery and save yourself headaches and the continued searching for battery conserving techniques needed for the substandard stock battery. I'm a heavy user so I bought it and have not been disappointed, it is well worth it. I got tired of plugging in my phone at work, the car, at home whenever I was at either place. Now I just charge my phone at night get up and have more than enough power to get me thru the day plus some. Phone has a tad bit more bulk but I can hold it better with that added bulk and it is not as thin. Now I'm just waiting on the Seidio Extended Case to arrive.

I have been around the bend on the stinking battery issue. I was getting 4-5 hours on the stock battery, so I ordered a 2 pack of 3500's off eBay. They took the life out to 10 hours - without a lot of camera usage. I then found the secrets...

1) Turn off FriendStream - set it to sync only 1 time a day.
2) Do not use the Android Facebook app - I fired it up and lost 3-5% instantly on the battery.
3) Visit mobile pages as much as possible when browsing. Flash is great, but downloading 3MB files kills the battery.
4) Sync your emails and settings before you unplug for the morning.
5) Forward POP emails to your gmail account - then only use the stock mail program for replies to important messages.
6) Turn the screen brightness down as far as you can adjust to.
7) Turn off Bluetooth when not in use - leaving GPS on did nothing to the battery, but Bluetooth took 5% during a normal day.
8) Turn off auto receive messages in Handcent if you use it. It leaves the data line open longer and off and on.

Lastly, I have had almost no performance difference so far between my 3500 and stock battery since changing my settings. I have 5 email accounts, gmail push, texting via handcent, FriendStream (manual sync), and listen to MP3's on the stock app for a few hours a day and at 15 hours I just hit 41% remaining.

Hope these ideas help you like they did me.

You people are funny, why buy a Ferrari if you're just going to tweak it down to a Honda Civic Hybrid.......doh!!!!

You're gonna need to "fill up" the gas tank more often for the speed and performance you're getting with this bad boy!

Best phone hands down!

Seems like an odd thing to compare it to but since you asked. There are speed limits, crosswalks, school zones, traffic lights speed cameras, etc. The list goes on and on. But the only safe place to enjoy your Ferrari is on a track. Otherwise, slow it down and drive sensible.

But back on-topic, I can get almost 33 hours on a single charge using the stock battery. I know this is contrary to what many, many people are seeing. It was the stock rom that gave me the most headaches. Although I had considered getting the 3500mah battery to see how much better cycle times I can get, it wont work with my Otterbox case so, it just wasn't an option for me.

I have already done what others have suggested, turning the display down, turning off bluetooth, facebook syncing. And they all seemed to help. Just not very much.

I've had my EVO for a few days now. I turned down the brightness, conditioned the battery, and turn off 4g/GPS/Blue Tooth when they aren't in use. Battery seems to be dying just as fast... any suggestions?

Well, first of all there is no "conditioning" for a li-on battery. The phone is awesome, just carry a spare battery, plug it in when you can and enjoy one of the best pocket computers out there. I just wish I could have one of these "over 12 hour on one charge" phones for a day as there are 7 phones in the family and none get anything close on the stock battery.

see, that screen shot that you just showed proved that you aren't really even using the phone!

if you're not using the phone then yes, you can g et that type of battery life.

39% cell standby?

36% phone idle?

that means 75% of your phones battery was used by doing NOTHING!

17% of your battery was used by wi-fi! wi-fi is known for using less battery power than 3g and 4g, yet it used 17% of your battery? And 75% of it was used by doing nothing

3% used by the display??

only 5% of your phone's battery was used by android system? that's where the app battery life comes into play, so that shows you're not using the phone.

there's no "voice calls" entry - you haven't even made a call.

don't mean to offend, just calling out the misconception of battery life on here.

with normal usage, you won't see this type of time, only with no - hardly any usage will you get this type of battery life.

with normal usage, I get (as well as my fiance, my mother, my cousins with the same phone) after utilizing all the battery tweaks, 9-10 hours, with moderate use, I'll get 12, but with heavy usage, I'll get 4-5 hours, but if i let the phone sit, I'd last a day and a half off a charge w/o using it.

just felt I should clear that up for anyone reading about battery life and wondering why they're getting 12 hours max

Keep the phone charging while using it. That seem to be the only concrete solution to a longer battery life.

No offense taken, your right. I spent the day testing battery life. But I did stream slacker for over 4 hours. Watched 3 streaming episodes of twit at about an hour each. And intentionally left the display on for 2 hours running a flickr slideshow. A little angry birds action. Some texting and replying to emails throuout the day. All the while keeping the display turned all the way down, or off in the case of slacker. So thats 9 hours of actually doing something.

But I hadn't even noticed until you pointed it out that I had not made a call. But I did sleep during that time. Which is a huge improvement over the stock ROM of 5-6 hours doing "nothing" and already in the red.

True, its better than it was

Swyped from my htc evo 4g!

Is 5-6 Hours average battery life for doing nothing. That is about what I am getting. I hardly used my phone today to see what my battery was doing, because I have been charging it 2-3 times a day. I have been thinking about rooting, to try and get more out of my phone & remove some of the bloat-wear like Blockbuster, tethering, etc... (I also do web design & SEO so screen print, and other apps that need Root access would be great), do you think that is my best option? Below are my battery Stats.

Hardly used [1 phone call, 5 text messages, opened 3 emails (didn't load full emails & didn't respond), I didn't turn use/on internet, WiFi or 4G]

ok i stand by the jucie defender and watchdog i am getting a lot better battery life more so that now im enjoying all the features of my phone.... now with that being said with the angry birds playing, texting (alot) emails, a couple of phone calls and alot of web surfing im getting 7-8 hours. But i agree with RUSHRL and while at my desk around 3 oclock i plug in with about 30% battery and recharge before i get off at 5. JUST CHARGE UR PHONE WHILE YOU AINT DOING NOTHING.

Hello all. I have spent a great amount of hours reading many forums and viewing many web pages about battery saving apps. I've applied tweaks and calibrated the battery. However, for the most part, these did very little to extend my stock battery life. I would love to root, but am too scared of voiding my warranty in case I need it. Echoing the advice of many in this thread and others, I now get 12 - 14 hours of daily use (web browsing, watching ~5 videos, listening to mp3s).
I (re-recommend):
1. Download Juice Defender (not the beta version) and use the default setting.
2. Using shortcut, add mobile data on/off widget. This enables me to quickly turn off mobile data when not in use (I toggle the switch on when I use the internet, etc). I find this to be of tremendous help with (hardly) no extra effort.
3.Use wi-fi whenever possible
4.Use Timerific to put my phone into airplane mode during sleep hours.
5. Have all of my sync settings to sync upon opening or refreshing the application.
6. My screen off is set at 10 min, but I do manually turn off the screen when I'm done using the phone.

Thanks for all of your help.

I used to get fantastic battery life. About 18 hours on a regular school day. Now, after an update here and there, I'm losing about 10% an hour not doing anything.

At one point Google Maps was using like 90% of my battery, so I unstalled the update to that (the one with 3d), even though I REALLY liked it and I use maps a lot driving around.

Still though, my battery sucks now. Anyone else see a major decrease in battery life over the past month or so?

I forgot to add this reminder (also has been posted by others): Ignore the battery meter in the notification bar! Also ignore battery widgets. I found that they are very inaccurate. Instead, I use the meter in settings/about phone/ battery. Even in the red, I find that it takes a while for the phone to die.

my battery life is horrible. Being that I don't know how to post my specs of my battery usage, ill just tell you guys.

Android System = 36%
Cell Standby = 30%
phone idle = 23%
display = 9%
internet = 2%

is it normal for the android system to be that high?
