New LG G4 - Get Google Play Store has stopped error when searching for apps

I bought my son his first cell phone 2 days. When we search for different apps the Google Play Store crashes and gives the error message: 'Unfortunately, Google Play Store has stopped." We took the phone back to Verizon and they replaced it but it is still happening. We tried a factory reset and logged in with a different Google account but we still get the error message. Any ideas what we can try?

My wife was having the exact same problem - she got her LG G4 yesterday and couldn't search for any apps in Google Play (which is how I found your post) and I was finally able to fix it. Here's what we did:

1. Go to your app drawer -> settings -> apps -> scroll to the side until you get to "All apps"
2. Find google play, clear data and cache
3. Find download manager, clear data and cache

Then it should work. At least it did for my wife.
