NEW (Official) EVO Froyo OTA update thread

YO,

So I downloaded the link provided above to see what happens. The link downloaded to my phone is titled "firmware.zip". I relocated the file to the root of my sd card. Next I did a manual install; so I turned off my phone and turned it back on while holding down on the volume + power.

From there I selected recovery. Then held up + the power button. While in the recovery menu there was no file located as "firmware.zip" but "update.zip" was there. So, thinking I can over write the file or trick the evo, I decided to rename "firmware.zip to "update.zip" and I rebooted my phone and located "firmware.zip" and renamed it to "update.zip" like the leaked rom.

Again I powered off my phone and powered it on again while holding down + power. Selected recovery once again and held power + up to enter recovery. "update.zip" was located. After selecting it I got a message saying something about the cache and installation was aborted.

So in conclusion, it did not work and I guess we (.3) have to wait for our official version. I powered up my phone again and it works fine; no bricking or glitches.

Did same thing. I'm thinking you are right. We will just have to wait for our own update. :)

Got 2.2 official. I wish there was a way to disable the slide lock screen so when I wake my phone, only the patter lock screen comes up. As it is, it looks like you have to do the slide down, then your security screen comes up.

im just hating all the bloatware, thats all set to run,

i like how u can force close stuff but it always comes back... seems to be more often then on 2.1..

Linpack shows me 37-38 mflops each time...

Is this in the market?

Nope. You gotta download the apk from that link I provided then mount the evo and put the file in your phone. download astro or any other file manager and open it and install it. then download the extension from the same link to your chrome or firefox browser and bingo you're all set. I'm telling you it's AWESOME lol

EDIT: You dont need to download it or mount or any of that. if you have a barcode scanner you can just scan the barcode and it'll automatically download it to your phone. Once it's downloaded you can just open it from the notification bar when it's done and just install it. The web browser end still stands the way I said it though

ok.. trying it right now

For some reason I was thinking the home screen(s) would work horizontal? Guess that wasn't for HTC Sense.

chrome to phone is alright...
someone download xtreme laps speed test, and do a speed test, either my phone can handle the test better because in my house i could only get like 500kb a second, now its EASILY over 1000kbs...

very happy about this..

i think this is why the browser seems faster, because the phone itself handles 3g better...

Make sure that you disable Google talk and also autosyncing of stock and other unnecessary accounts. I noticed that after the update that the above all reset to default options and were set to sync and auto sign on etc.

I also notice that WiFi signal strength has significantly improved after updating to froyo. I'm at full bars in areas where I used to only have two.

Loving flash in the browser now, since updating I've been streaming south park episodes. I feel like I died and went to heaven.
