New OTA impact thread - please report in

Prior to this update, my TB was mediocre. A few small apps to get it the way i wanted it, and life was, as they say, O-K. Then, this AM VZ pushed this update... and all hell has broken loose. I can no longer enable my security pattern to be drawn to unlock the device, my better keyboard app doesnt work, Handcent is glitching like crazy, and my GPS sucks worse than it did before... WTF.

Ninja Edit: not to mention the my mobile hotspot was zapped, and now i have the standard droid 3G symbol... siiiiiigh

I'm still having constant reboots even during calls. VZW won't even talk to me if I cannot call from another phone. "Oh, hi, random stranger. Could I borrow your phone for an hour so VZ can 'troubleshoot' the same steps I have already taken?"

Of course, the only decent sound fix at this moment will cost me $320. I can't reliably make calls and have to pay to get something that works. What a bargain!

This is not the normal behavior after the update. You may have encountered some corruption during the update process. I would advise you to do a factory reset.

I use a security pattern, handscent, and GPS. All work fine with the MR2 for me.

I see you are running Das BAMF 1.6... have you tried flashing back to stock, ensuring the stock MR2 is installed, then flashing back to Das BAMF 1.6?

Have you tried a factory data reset? I know they are a pain but they really DO fix a lot of problems.

I have never done one on my TB...did a couple back in my BB days..factory reset sets back to 'fresh out the box' yes?...not sure I am willing to go back and reload everything...but if I did would I need to download the update again..or what..how does that work??

I am in a strictly LTE area, For the last 10 days since I have owned this phone it has never left 4G, always on 4G. Since the OTA update last night my phone is switching from 1x to 3G which it never has before. I am pissed off. I held off on rooting this thing for hopes on getting Gingerbread with the update. This thing is getting rooted today and a new rom is being installed.

Akron Ohio here.................just updated this morning....same thing is happening to me. I am getting pretty upset about it.

I've been off BAMF for several weeks since it was causing even more issues than I had on the stock rom, just haven't taken the time to update every little detail in my CP. The phone is updated to latest stock with the latest radio.

Edit: A couple factory resets as well, and no third party apps. I have a pretty boring smartphone right now.

Can't you go into a store?

Update. After the update, I started out great but noticed some back and forth between 3G and 4G where before it used to be a strong 4G signal. Then the radio would pretty much freeze after leaving or turning off WiFi. I would have to restart the phone to get a data signal back. The airplane mode switch would work intermittently. so I contemplated doing a factory reset, but before I tried that, I decided to remove battery, SIM card, and SD card and left the phone like that over night. I had done a quick battery pull after the update, but figured I'll try it again and this time just left it like that for about 6 hours.

I put everything back together and my phone seems like a different phone. No reboots since updating, but I was only getting one about every week or so. Data connection is back the way it was and hand off between WiFi, 4G, and 3G is seamless and better than before. SMS is MUCH better with no more pauses and delays. Phone seems snappier and my battery life is damn good, giving me a good solid 12-15 hours with active time in the solid 2.5-3.5 hour range (lots of texting and push email, about 10-15 short voice calls, minimal gaming, internet use, and GPS) before seeing yellow. This is maybe 1 hour more than what I had before. I'm also leaving GPS and Bluetooth on all the time now where before I was constantly turning them on and off to preserve the battery. WiFi still drains the battery if left searching for a signal, so I turn that off before I leave the WiFi area.

Yes, my GPS blanks out every few seconds or so when looking at it through GPS status, but it hasn't affected my navigation, Google maps, or location setting, so I don't care. It locks on pretty quickly between 1-5 seconds and doesn't seem to drain my battery while active as much as it used to. Before, while searching for a signal and even after locked on, my battery level would drop like my truck drinks premium. But now it is great.

The update screwed around with some of my setting like ring tones, volumes, some sync settings. Played havoc with my mind until I realized this... LOL.

Loving this phone more and more.

Well, I have no internet, the phone goes from 1g to 3g and it sucks....

I did the battery pull and removing the SIM Card for over 2 minutes............nothing....I am freaking out!

Yeah, at this point, try a factory reset. After that, its time to b**** out to some one at Verizon. LOL. Going to have to reload all your data whether its on a this phone or a new one, so might as well try. I was reluctant as it is going to be a pain in the ass to get all my customizations set up again, but gotta do what you gotta do.

If a factor does not fix it. I would go over to Verizon and get a new phone. And make sure to tell them all the pain that has come because of this and they might just give u something

I did that, at the suggestion of tech support. The store told me to call tech support.
Idiots abound! That's my new moto, by the way, based on a recent conversation with managed care employees.

Ask for a manager at tech support; insist upon escalation until you find an intelligent person. If you haven't already reset your phone, they will require you to do that, but as soon as it is obvisous that that has not fixed the problem, they will send you a certified like new replacement phone (CLNR). This is not a difficult negotiation. Sounds like you only need to escalate to the right person.

got the update this morning...so far noticing no improvements...GPS is not any better. Tested in the office with RunKepper(great running app) never connected -- tested outside at lunch....still took 4 or 5 attempts to get a GPS signal(same as before update

I finally got the update Wednesday morning 7/13, and installed it. I didn't really have GPS issues before, but now the initial GPS lock just takes 2 - 4 seconds, not the usual 20 or so. Using GPS status, the satellite data at times 'blinks off' for a second. Wednesday afternoon I took off on a motorcycle trip of about 200 miles of winding mountain roads. Then returned about 250 miles today. I use the Thunderbolt as my main GPS. I alternated between CoPilot, Google maps, and Trapster (Google maps). In all cases, it worked flawlessly. Zoom way in on the CoPilot maps had it following the curves in the road and the changes in speed as close to real time as I would ever want, with not hesitations or anything. So while the data dropouts in GPS status are concerning, for me it is a non-issue. And the faster lock is awesome for me.

Sadly, it may be a fault of LTE interference. Since there was no firmware update to the GPS, just the cellular antenna.
The problem with continually losing and reacquiring GPS satellites every few seconds happens since the update even in areas where there is no LTE service.

Nonetheless, the hypothesis is that the GPS radio firmware haa been tweaked to limit interference with 4G.
