New phone VS Nexus 7

Or you could just download the WiFi tether app or foxfi.

Those apps produce ad-hoc networks, not infrastructure. Jelly bean does not work with ad-hoc.

To clear up possible confusion, quatrimmus ICS does not have a working tether, so when I tried those apps they too failed to create a proper AP; I assume, but just a guess, that its a kernel thing.

Other option is Bluetooth tethering or going to a ROM with working tether.

Respectfully, I'm going to have to call you wrong. My Nexus 7 tethers perfectly with my One X with the WifiTeher app installed from Google Play. It provides data to all apps properly.

Right, I'm sure that would work, I agree with you.

I am specifically referring to the optimus v phone. The ICS roms I have tried (quatrimus and bobz) for that specific phone do not have wifi tether working, so the only option is ad-hoc (in ICS, for this phone); jelly bean does not support ad-hoc out of the box.

Or you can have the best of both worlds and buy a Galaxy Nexus and put it on T-Mobile prepaid for $30.

What does that plan include?

5gb of FAST data.

but once you use that up, you'll feel like you could walk faster than it.

You really will feel that way when I was on At&t and they throttled my "unlimited" data you will not want to use your internet anymore and data on your phone will slow to about 2G (EDGE). Its hard going from 3G to EDGE i dont even want to think about 4G to EDGE!

But T-Mobile's "4G" isn't actual 4G, it's just 3G on steroids.

Never had that problem. After about the first 8 gigs of LTE at&t throttles my data to 3G. I usually get around 800-1000kbs after throttling. Never bothers me at all. For 25 bucks a month it's the best deal ever.

Well I was getting throttled when they just started it so after 2 GB i was slowed to 100 kb/s if i was lucky. I dropped att before the next bill.

The way look at it is your going to use the n7 for only internet.. and the HTC onev can do all in one device. There's no need to carry two devices.. the one v feels so nice in the hand ahhhh xD
