I don't think I'll even bother with the Atrix now. I'm sure I could force myself to cope with the laptop dock price, but the extra tethering fee just royally p***ed me off.

+1. I was planning on finding the dock cheaper later on but with the tethering added on, that's not going to happen. I'm wondering if I should just go with the inspire now.
Charging that much for a "shell" is ridiculous, and you are essentially just using the phone with an attached keyboard/screen so the tethering fee is also absurd. I was going to stick with AT&T because of this phone, but now since I may be looking at a different device, I will be looking at phones coming out on all carriers.
Guys, to be fair, they never stated that you HAVE to get tethering plan if you buy the dock separately, so hopefully that is the case because all you are buying is a "shell", so technically they can't force you to get a tethering plan with it, especially if you buy from Amazon or elsewhere -- just use wireless with it, which is what most people was going to do anyways.
And, the phone itself costs $199 with 2 year contract, so it's not THAT expensive and actually coincides with previous high end smartphone prices, even more so when compared to Verizon's upcoming $249 Thunderbolt.

if i can buy the dock without tethering off contract then ill consider it.
You can. For $500. May as well get a mid/upper-mid range laptop. Or a 40" TV for your bathroom. Or something worth it.

If I still get anything having to do with the Atrix, it will be the phone by itself. I will not buy anything else for this phone from AT&T. They don't deserve it.
