New Symbol in.Notification Bar

Please help! I'm Brittany, and I'm horrible because I'm always downloading apps in good faith that my lookout will catch anything bad for my phone. However a couple days ago my phone started talking out of no where it was this man's voice trying to sell me something, and then this symbol showed up. (it's to the left of the alarm symbol; it looks like an "N"). Thank you in advance!

That's the NFC symbol. It allows you to do certain tasks wirelessly. Your phone shouldn't be talking because of that symbol though.
