New update killed my battery life

Yeah my battery life has gone to complete CRAP after this dumb update!!

I'm definitely thinking about bring it back if it doesn't change by weeks end!

I downloaded auto run killer, uninstalled apps/widgets, and messed with some other settings, I think I have stopped the bleeding. I will know for sure tomorrow.

I did notice that my phone has been running warmer since the update...

Yeah thats exactly what warned me something was up today along with the 10-12% an hour battery drain (compared to 5-6% an hour) when I wasn't really even doing anything with my phone. The drain was so bad that after over an hour of it being plugged in and playing music off the SD card it had only charged about 15%.

I had my cell standby using as much or more energy than the display and the 50% time without signal was persistent through multiple times of toggling it in and out of airplane mode and even restarts. With problems like this and google maps and navigation crashing multiple times I finally decided to do a hard reset and it already seems to be behaving much better but tomorrow will tell for sure. Still need to do a airplane mode toggle to fix the cell standby issue but at least its working now.

Edit: One thing to note and I'm not sure if it is important at all but i did install the update via the SD card instead of waiting to receive it over the air.

My battery life is definetly worse than it was pre-update and the phone is considerably warmer. I've been using it very lightly today, maybe 30 minutes of active use time. I disconnected it from the charger this morning at 8:30AM, it's now 8:30PM and it just beeped at me to plug it in. Before the update I was using it fairly heavily(2-3 hours of active use time) and it wouldn't beep at me all day. Whack.

Not to mention I've had 2 instances of the same issue(Notifications pull down getting stuck on-screen) that needed to have a battery pull to remedy, when I didn't have a single hiccup pre-update.

I recharged and have been off charge for 10 minutes. I am at 94%. 6% in 10 minutes. My battery usage looks like this:

display 69%
cell standby 12%
phone idle 7%
android system 6%
handcent sms 2%
android core apps 2%
wifi 2%

My display is set at manual and is about 1/4 brightness. In the time I had the phone open to copy the above info, It dropped two more percent. I agree. If there isn't a real fix and not some work around, this thing goes back. I'm NOT charging my phone twice every 24 hours, when it used to last me twice to three times that long before. BTW, I've not noticed the increased performance they tout in the update either. This is useless to me.

My cell standby has gone up to 40+% too. My battery used to be great, then the update took effect and now my battery is not lasting throughout the day.

Mmmm I just noticed even with me running autorun killer with a TON of services killed, my battery is dying too fast when the phone is idle, I usually come home from work with about 30% left and thats with me txting and usin the web durin my breaks, today after work my phone was TOTALLY DEAD!

yes my battery life took a significant hit as well. lots more time looking for network

my battery is worse now than before as well. I never experienced any problems before. my phone has been off the charger for 2 hours and barely used it and its down 20%

I must say I'm surprised by this thread. I've noticed a considerable better battery life since the update.

My battery life is definitely worse. I tested on two different batteries to ensure that wasn't the cause.

I can confirm that my battery life is deffinately way worse...

This is rediculous... I am seriously ready to exchange my phone.

This is simply unacceptable.

are you running any task killer or is it rooted?

I have advanced task killer but I only have it on the lightest auto-kill setting. I manually kill most programs about 3-4 times a day.

So far I've noticed I get about 2 extra hours per day without having to charge with the overall same use habits.

Maybe I've been lucky so far and it will change, but so far my battery life definitely is not worse since the update.

I went into the settings menu and updated my PRL. Seems to have done something. Off charge at 6AM, now 210PM and I am at 68% Much closer to where I was before. Anyone having the drain issue, I would say try updating your PRL and see if that helps you.

Yeah the battery is even worse then when I first got the phone. Had a Pre before and was able to get decent life from it. EVO too, and now the Epic. Glad I still have the EVO. Put the Epic on the nightstand with 42% last night. Great Sprint service reception, no using it at all. One email account set to every 4 hours on off peak hours and the weather to check every 2 hours refresh. Battery/phone completely dead from just sitting between 12:15 A.M. and 6 A.M. Absolutely ridiculous. So glad this is not my primary phone. 40% in 6 hours just sitting. While the EVO right next to it on the night stand set to refresh email the same for 1 account and the other 2 emails on the EVO polls more then that. It dropped from 98% to 87%.

I'm going to have to take this Epic back to Best Buy and get a new one.

whats even stranger... is that before the biggest consumer of power was the display.

Now since I unpluged my phone at 7:30 AM this morning the biggest consumer are the following:

Phone Idle - 28%
Voice Calls - 21%
Display -20%
Android System - 10%
Cell Standby - 9%

I only made one phone call this morning that lasted 1 minute so I am not sure how voice calls are eating up 21% of my battery.

Whatever they did with this update it totally messed everything up.

so if i buy the epic from sprint today, will it come with this update already installed or will it ask me to install it once i activate it? i dont wanna get the phone if it already has the update in it.
