New v20 first impressions 2 days from N7 and Iphone 6s

The note 7 was the brightest screen on any phone. Comparing the v20 to my s7 edge in the store, the edge was maybe a little brighter when they were both at max, but with both at 75% the s7e was clearly brighter. LG screens seem to only get really bright above 85% or so.

Viewing angles on the s7e also blow the v20 screen out of the water, but I expected that. All in all, I've accepted the fact that I'm downgrading in the screen dept to regain a replaceable battery, a bigger (flat) screen and an ir blaster. I'm surprised how much I've actually missed the ir blaster lol.

Not in recent tests. It only did around 500 nits where the lg did 700 and iPhone 700.

I have a bit light bleed on my V20 in lower left and right corner of the main screen. Nothing bad but recognizable with white background and brightness to 50-100%.

I just got my V20, coming from Note 7.

Messing with it for about 2 hours, so far - I miss my Note 7.

I find the V20 laggier and even though they have the same inside specs, it's a bit slower than my Note 7.
The Note 7 has a better screen, super bright, the V20 not so much, too dark for my taste, maybe this can be adjusted but I haven't found it.
Even thought the V20 has QuickCharge 3, I find it charges slower than the Note 7.
On screen pages, like facebook, news apps etc seem bigger, take more space, which I don't like. Maybe that can be adjusted too but not there yet.
Note 7 has a lot more customization options.
Even though the V20 and Note 7 are both 5.7 inches, the bottom on screen navigation buttons on the V20 take a lot of space.
I think I'd prefer the 2nd screen on the V20 to be at the bottom vs the top.
I miss the always on display on the Note 7.
I was ok with using Samsungs' Grace UX but with LG, I might need to use my Nova Prime launcher.
I don't like that only 4 apps are shown on a folder on the V20, vs 9 on the Note 7.
The V20 is louder than the Note 7 though.
V20 not water resistant though.
V20 too big a body, I prefer the Note 7 size.

I'm eligible for a JUMP next month so I might get the S7 Edge until the S8 comes out.

Give your device a few days to adjust...it shouldn't be laggy..others are having smooth experiences

He shouldn't but at the volume of phones these manufacturers push out there are going to be a few that are either duds or need a reset off bat. Most of the time it's a hiccup in software but occasionally it's faultily assembled. Sometimes you just give the phone a couple of days. Android is pretty damn smart and can typically figure it's crap out. See if it works itself out otherwise get a replacement sent out.

Quick two day impression.
First of all, I’m a loyal Samsung Note 7 fan. I was patient through the flames and was disappointed in the cancellation of the product. Looking forward to their new lines.
Now, after switching to LG v20 (debated S7 Edge), I am very satisfied. I am an audio person so the DAC isn’t that impressive but a lot better than the Note 7 or Iphone 6s (previous). Larger screen, didn’t want airport people to confuse N7 with S7. If S7’s started to smoke then what? – Probably all of the same questions that ran through your mind……..
Pro:
I love the dual screen, much better than the always on N7. Here are things that I like:
Removable battery – battery life is not a problem for me easily lasting a day and a half.
B&O headphones are better that the el cheapo’s that comes with others.
3.5 audio jack so I can use my better headphones. I still like my Sony NW-zx100 for audio playback.
Plays FLAC – my entire CD collection is on flac and great to have on a phone when I don’t have my NW-zx100. Copy-paste video and audio to SD or Phone, Back up to SD, etc (easily).
Having the on-off switch on the back makes this phone great because you will never inadvertently turn on the screen. I program two fingers on my left and my index on the right – perfect for me. I use a ring that sticks to my case so use it for watching videos and additional holding support with either hand.
Nougat is good and easily maps my N7 as far as widgets and apps to include the back, home and clear all buttons on the bottom. Maybe not 100% but close enough for me.
Great storage – using 256GB for now.
Having withdrawals with stylus – I bought a pen/ stylus to us with the LGv20. It works fine as I can now use the note capture and swipe, etc with a stylus and write with the ink pen.. You will find a lot of retractable pen/styli – search.
Love the IR-InFared remote control feature – I control my TV/stereo through the phone.
Con:
Not waterproof. Not a big deal breaker for me.
Slightly larger – but appreciate the larger flat screen on v20 and the mini second screen. I also use a Plantronics headset for calls so the phone is usually in my backpack.
No wireless charging.
Smaller battery. Maybe someone will make a 4000mh to fit in the future?

Not too much experience with camera yet...
No doubt that V20 is a great phone. Great camera, great audio experience. Not the same as having the Note 7 but I would say it's the next best thing you can have in terms of Camera performance and Audio experience. Water resistance is something you'll miss out but if your careful enough no big deal here. Why didn't you go for the S7 Edge?

1. I travel a lot - didn't want to take the chance of anyone telling me that I can't bring the S7edge on board due to the confusion of N7-S7. Got tired of the whole experience, from early on, pre ordereing, waiting, loving it, reports, recall, waiting, exchange, cancellation.. - I'm taking a break from Samsung.
2. I know that the S7 is smaller with the same features of the N7 (minus sPen). Decided to wait for the S8 series.
3. Liked the DAC part of the v20. I'm an audio person - a good fit for the v20 with up to 2TB storage.
4. Liked the camera,
5. Nougat interface.

Wanted a large screen, either I7plus or v20. went with v20 and decided to make this work out for my needs. I like the Android experience.

I still really like the N7 - miss it and the S7edge would have just reminded me more of the N7 and make me miss it even more, hehe.

Thank you for the reviews.

I turned in my Note 7 on the 10/17 (the day I could pre-order at T-Mob). It looks like it will be here on 10/21, if UPS tracking is correct.

I KNOW I am going to miss that beautiful AMOLED screen (and the S-pen), but as far as I am concerned, this was pretty much the only choice I had. I was thinking of a Pixel XL, but I would have to wait a long time to get one, and because no external memory, would have to have the 128GB version (adding to the longer wait time).

So your reviews have kinda put my mind at ease. I upgrade phones every 2-3 years, so I would hate to be stuck with something I only KINDA liked.

RIP Note7, I will miss you. :'(

You're damn right you miss the Note 7. Don't play yourselves thinking this is a replacement. It's more like a hold over.

Based on what you want. If you want manual controls over mics and video settings and hifi audio output through headphones and love removable battery and ir blaster then the Note 7 is just a pretty phone. And for me that's what the Note 7 was. Explosions or not, I personally would not choose the Note 7 over the V20 and I'm willing to acknowledge that the 7's camera is probably better in auto mode by a small hair. I use manual mode most of the time and there isn't one phone with manual mode that I would choose over LG's.

How is signal reception? The Note 7 was the weakest of any recent device I owned. You do not notice until in medium to low signal areas. This really stands out now since back with my Note 4 that has 10 dBm better signal in medium to low signal areas. Apparently the V20 has great signal reception, but nothing confirmed.

Besides the weak signal, I never really liked the curve on the Note 7 and despise it on the 7E since more pronounced. I know the Note 7 display is technically better, but overall I prefer the flat Note 4 display. Looking forward to testing the V20, but still not sure if will order. Tempted to test and then pay the $35 restocking fee if not happy with it.

You're referring to content scaling. Yeah, I'm gonna miss that too.

Did you be any chance restored a backup from your grenade 7? I did and it made my phone lag. Did a factory reset and started fresh and this phone was super snappy!! You can adjust the dpi, go under settings, display, advance settings, display settings. You must have a defective unit because the v20 is just as bright if not brighter than the Note 7. The auto brightness is not as good as the 7 so manual adjust your brightness and watch how bright it gets. It's even brighter outdoors.

2 n7s 1 ip7plus, 2 s7edges and now only one LGV20. IM HAPPLY dun w notes.

And spelling, apparently.

V20 has a long hill to climb to be a better package than my N7. I've never had a phone with better build quality, and it feels just awesome in the hand. Too bad it will burn you.

That didn't help mine.

No sense comparing to a phone that no longer exists imo. Still the camera of s7e like N7 is unbeatable. It is other features that attract me to v20.

If you are mainly an audio fan the V20 seems a no brainer. How much SOT with a day and a half? Based on current reviews, that means maybe two hours worth to get the far?
That's why I added this phone to the squadron. Hope it impresses. Looking forward to comparing it to my dedicated headphone amps.

Haven't noticed any signal reception issues as I might find out this weekend when I go to the country side to take a few pictures. It's always around five bars (max) in the city. I like the v20 flat display layout - it really feels like a phablet verses phone. The 5.7 lets me work on files easily as the screen is very clear.
