New Verizon Data Plans Suck

I have an ENV touch and I have the option to change my features from $10 for 25 MB to $29.99 for unlimited.

I am also eligible for an early upgrade and plan on upgrading to the bionic when it comes out, will i be grandfathered in?

Thank you

I think only if you do it all by July 7th

Thats what suks there arent any phones currently for me to upgrade to ,between now and july 7th thats worth burning my upgrade on just to be grandfathered in

I am in the same boat! I do not see anything in the near future that I would want to replace my X. It has and does everything I need.

When you email them via the contact us form on the website and have a serious concern then they will usually actually call you to discuss it. Not always but a good amount of the time.

Maybe they will call and tell me why their European data plans suck to the point where I basically can't use them with my phone. 70mb for $100 is insane. I used 450mb last month so 70 just isn't going to cut it, especially for that price. Last summer I had unlimited data on my phone over there. I'm having to go back to my BB just because I don't think I'll be able to use that much data with it.

Why did they call you?

As mentioned by vzwrocks they will call depending on the questions asked.I emailed them last thursday.
My questions was about the upcoming data plans , for clarity and since my contract is up on one phone and almost up on other.
They confirmed the link vzwrocks posted

Oh wow that sucks :(

Yes a Blackbery will use less data both because it does not have widgets which suck data in the background (even if you turn sync off sometimes) like Android does and they also compress the data. If i were traveling internationally I think they are about the only smartphone I would seriously consider. If it were a one time thing I would probably get a non smartphone through Global Rental.

I have unlimited data, pay 29.99 a month for it, but I have an old alltel smartpak data plan. If I choose to upgrade after 7/7 will I be able to keep my plan/unlimited data? Any info would be greatly appreciated! I know vzwrocks says to wait, I just want to be sure that I don't lose my unlimited data if I upgrade after the 7th!

You should send an email and ask about it just to be sure

I sent an email about feature phones and transferring to a used smartphone before the tiered plans start and they gave me a call the next morning.

In all likelihood you will be just fine as long as you don't change the data plan. If you do an update online make sure to pay close attention too what is being added and what is being removed and of it does not look right stop and call customer service and have them do it manually for you.

But yes if it makes you feel better shoot them off an email.

Hey guys this has been very helpful in my decisions. I have some questions about the best way to do this as I really want to get the bionic.

Right now I have no wireless plan with Verizon.

I was wondering if I could buy a used 3g smartphone and then activate that phone onto a plan with no contract. Then when the Droid Bionic comes out I would buy that with the cheaper upgrade (non retail) pricing and renew my plan with a 2 year agreement and live happily ever after. Is this something that I could do?

Yes.

Quick question, does it matter what data plan you have? For example, I have a Blackberry Storm (horrible phone). My bill says "blackberry data plan". If I switch over to Android, does that mean that I would have to switch data plans before 7/7, or are they all under one category (4G included)?

I am really surprised by how expensive the data plans are in this day and age. I guess verizon just thinks will pay it anyways. I know I probably shouldn't be surprised by all the rate hikes these companies are making. Sprint is looking better and better. I think they should at least have a option to have a cheaper plan like att for about 200mb of data. Maybe they will bring the $15 for 150mb plan. By a miracle they should let people get a smartphone without a data plan again which I know is not going to happen but it's nice to dream

Well, its the data I need, not the phone. I'm not likely to call anyone but need/want access to my email and blackberry messenger so we can keep in touch with each other while we are over there and if we get separated.
